The two stars are being given because while I thought the food was high quality the service was one of the worst in comparison to most Italian restaurants. There was a lack of care for my family and I. Our table was cared for ( or not cared for ) by a bald older gentleman who’s name I did not catch. Barbara his assistant though poured wine for our table. She poured one glass of red wine for my father to a normal portion and then two the other two people in the party my mother and grandmother got half assed glasses that had about 5 sips worth in them. To top the whole experience off we repeatedly reminded them that we were short on time so they decided to take as long as they desired. Tables of larger parties that entered after us got their food before us- although we practically ordered the same thing. This was not the only issue. When we repeatedly asked for the check, the waitstaff needed reminding 5 or 6 times before they brought us a sorbet rather than what we asked for. Granted, this sorbet was probably a peace offering in order to smooth things over because we did confront them about the wine and they frankly could not care less and once again left our table unattended for a half hour. For the price of the dinner and food quality I would go else where before considering going here. They do not care for you it is all...
Read moreTrattoria al Pompiere is not the easiest of places to find and from the outside it is totally unpretentious. We walked by it first time and had to backtrack using our GPS but we were so glad we made the effort. The beautifully air conditioned traditional Italian style restaurant was a welcome relief from the scorching heat of Verona on the 14th July this year. The greeting from the staff was friendly and professional and we were seated and served with nice cold water in minutes. None of us are competent with Italian so an English speaking waiter was assigned to explain the menu to us and to give us his excellent recommendations. We started with a meat antipasti platter of their mouth watering salamies and parma ham washed down with an excellent Valpolicella. The mains were Beef Cheek with amarone, and two pasta dishes. All three were delicious. Beautifully cooked, excellent presentation, and so flavoursome. Because we were told not to leave without trying their Tiramisu, we shared one. It was so light and totally delicious. This is not an inexpensive restaurant but it was worth every euro. Excluding the wine the bill came to €114 for three people. I would not go to Verona again without at least one visit to Trattoria al Pompiere. By the way, they open at 1pm for lunch and last orders are 2.30 so don't take...
