Walking slowly looking for a place to rest our feet…take in a good bottle of wine…and some needed nourishment. We saw a quaint plane down the narrow Street and decided to have a look. The menu looked great with dishes that excited our palate…we had the most amazing lunch. It really felt like dinner. The bean soup is burst of flavor that was not expected from a simple bean soup. The pork medallions and roasted potates with porcini mushrooms is simply a masterpiece…and the porcini mushroom pasta with truffle is something Leonardo da Vinci world have created if he was a chef!! Very bad service - we sat outside. The temperature was about 13 degrees but they had a heater on top of each table. The waitress in good English told us the specials. While we were waiting for the mains she decided to switch off the heater from on top of our table. We asked her to switch it back on and she ignored us. After about 10 mins we asked again. She took her time but eventually turned it on. We asked why she switched it off and she just spoke in Italian although earlier she communicated fine in English. While we were eating she decided to switch it off again. We asked for the bill twice while in the cold cause she never turned on the heater and after 15 mins we decided to get up and get ready to go and only then did she bring the bill. Food was mediocre. Every time I'm in Verona I can't wait to go here. And tonight I met 3 other people at 2 different tables who said the same thing. There is something about the combination of good food and good wine that they offer that really hits home. Is it Veronas finest culinary experience and location- not necessarily. BUT what it has and what some other places lack is soul and connection and unpretentious. And every time I end up here I seem to have a wonderful shared experience with the people around me as sell. And btw- the food IS fantastic!!! The owner is also so authentically Italian that I always sort of feel like a guest at her table.
