I stumbled on this restaurant after searching for a place to eat in Kawaguchiko area. I'm glad to say it was one of my best eating experience in the city. Also, the service was awesome. The building has an old Japanese look and feel to it. The owner said that the building is more than 100 years old. When we first arrived, we didn't know if they accepted credit card or cash only. When we were already seated down, we found out that it was cash only. I was about to leave to go to go an ATM but the owner insisted that we stay and that he would take us to the ATM after we're done eating. I was surprised that he would offer to do that. So we stayed. The food was really good. There's several sets of orders to choose from and each tier offers different meat or extra food. Each person has to choose a set. When the food is presented, they go over the instructions on how to cook it and which sauce to use. Basically, you BBQ it over an open grill. The staff here are amazing and really accommodating. Our server at the time was actually the owner but I didn't know it at first. He service was quick and welcoming and smiled the entire time. We had some small talk and asked us questions about where we're from. He speaks pretty good English because he said he lived in USA for a short time many years ago. If you are ever visiting Mt. Fuji, I highly recommend you visit this place. This place deserves a visit. Just the building itself was worth checking out because after our meal, the owner encouraged us to go upstairs...
Read moreZero star for that RUDE WAITER ( or whatever he was). I came here because there are such good reviews from Google Maps, didn't expect to have this terrible experience. 😢
I went there with members of my family who were elderly and they couldn't have too much food.
I did asked the waiter that do we have to order a number of the set of food as a number of people? and he said NO.
Thus, I ordered 3 sets of the ¥3,000 set as a starter and I would like to order more meat sticks later.
He denied and forced me to order 4 sets. I disagreed and explained my thought but he didn't listen to me.
Finally, he told me to ask the customer sitting next to us of how much we should order which was very very RUDE and IMPOLITE !!! 😡 I don't know those people at all and I know well how much my people eat. How DARE he said that to me?! I never expected this horrific behave and bad attitude of Japanese people before and this was so disappointed. 😡👎👎
Just because my parents were hungry and I didn't want anyone to feel bad so I ordered 4 sets of the smallest one (¥2,000/set) You know what? We could not finish all food as i thought at first.
The only reason for his behave that I can think of is only about the MONEY. He did such a big mistake. If he let me ordered what I wanted to, he would get more money from us.
For the place, it was great to see the old house in Japanese style. However, it was so smoky. All your clothes and hair will be covered with the smoke.
Food was good but unfortunately I didn't tried what I...
Read moreMy family visited this restaurant on 20 Oct 2018. We had fabulous Irori cuisine and got wonderful service from the owner.
The owner can communicate well in English. Although he cannot speak Thai, he try to speak simple Thai with us.
This was the first time we have Irori cusine. The owner was very helpful. He explained how to eat the the dish, asked how was the meal, and even volunteered to take photos for us.
After the meal, we had to catch the train back to Otsuki. But due to the rain, there was no taxi. The owner more than kind enough to offer us a ride to train station.
Since we have so many luggages, he had to ride us twice. First round he drove the truck to tranfer all of our luggages and brought my brother to the station. The second round he used his personal car to drive us all.
Without his kindness, we definitely could not make it in time.
We appreciate his help. Therefore we would like to share his superb hospitality.
If you have a chance to visit Lake Kawaguchi, and want to experience Japanese local cuisine, this restaurant should be on your...
