toe BAR & RESTAURANT — Restaurant in Fujikawaguchiko

Literally the worst experience you could ever have.

I wanted to have a quick drink before leaving Kawaguchiko so I asked if I could order drink only and they said yes. They only had coffee written on the menu so I asked if they also have iced latte and the staff confirmed it was available.

However, they first brought me a hot latte, then iced tea, before finally bringing the correct drink. At this point, I got frustrated because it didn't seem like a simple mistake but a racism toward foreigners. I speak fluent Japanese.

Perhaps it was because they don't accept drink-only orders during lunch hours nor accept anything that's not on the menu? If that’s the case, they should've informed me about their policy when I placed my order. Then I would've left without a word. The entire experience felt unnecessarily complicated, and I left feeling embarrassed and unwelcome.

We came to this restaurant because other we tried were to busy and at first we were not to convince by the "simple" menu but we were both blown away by the quality of the food. Everything we ordered was thoroughly prepared with a lot of attention to details and each component were delicious. We are usually not keen on dessert but everything was so tasty that we had to try the gâteau au chocolat and It was a perfect ending to this meal. Such a nice experience packed with tones of flavours and colors. The drinks were also nice and overall, the prices reasonable. Got an hour before my train back to tokyo so we searched on Google for a nice place to hv lunch. Walked through very quiet residential areas from kawaguchiko station and reached toe in around 10 minutes. Some outdoor seatings also available if the weather is not too chilly.

Great value set lunches, juicy and tender fried chicken and the daily pasta was good too! Almost missed the homemade ginger ale as it was only on the Japanese menu.. delicious!
