USHI-BUCHI — Restaurant in Fukuoka

A sincere thank you to every staff in this restaurant. We found USHI BUCHI on the first night we arrived Fukuoka. My traveling partner has certain food allergies (gluten free and dairy free), so we usually ask the staff to see whether they think they can meet our needs. The lady who greeted us told us that the restaurant was fully booked that night but she was very kind to look into our food allergy information and talked with the chef about it. When she told us if it’s okay with us, they had no problem serve the meat with just salt and pepper, we immediately made booked a table for the following day. We could tell they were fully prepared for us. When we were led to our seat, we didn’t have any set sauce for dipping on the table. English menu was ready. When we ordered our meal, the staff was able to tell us which dish was not suitable for my partner. We could tell that they have carefully thought about our dietary issue. Once we finished ordering, they gave my partner her a dish of salt and pepper despite the shared ones on the table.

The whole meal experience was beyond perfection. Wagyu beef (I always believe that the chef/owner of a restaurant has to be 100% confident in their own taste so they are willing to serve their food with very simple or none seasoning. Glad we found a chef like this in USHI BUCHI), Japanese rice, fresh vegetables, delicious beef soup, crunchy kimchi, fine drinks….and wonderful music!

The atmosphere in the restaurant was discreet, as guests, you definitely feel you’re given and protected your private space in an open environment. Very Japanese, well done team!

One last thing I’d add on is that we were amazed that we almost did not smell smoky when we walked out of the restaurant! That was a surprising bonus!

I would have loved to give this place a good rating, but sadly I can't. I went on 29th November with my mother who was visiting me in Fukuoka. We really loved how the restaurant looked and also the meat we got in our first order was really tasty and arrived quickly. We decided to order some more. However, we had to wait more than 30 minutes and when we finally managed to talk to one of their waitresses (they kept running around and were not approachable, even though the place was not very busy on a Thursday night), she told us our meat was still being made. We got annoyed after 15 more minutes of waiting and wanted to ask for the bill. Eventually, the waitress came to us with the half of our order, but then the chef came and said it was a mistake and took the plate again. We said we wanted to pay anyway and left the place. I want to believe that it was a mistake and the staff just forgot our order and didn't know how to explain in English. Nevertheless, we left hungry and annoyed, because the food we got was actually really tasty and we wanted to have more. I would love to come again if I knew I would be...

What a find! This yakiniku gave the best meal of the holiday … an achievement when everything eaten has been delicious! We went for the set of 6 cuts of beef chosen by the chef - the quality and taste was amazing and felt like great value for money (2,300¥ per person) - so good, we went for the same set twice! In addition, the rice was excellent, the vegetables fresh & tasty and the cocktails very moreish. I have dietary issues (GF and DF) and my needs were accommodated perfectly.
