Like many people, I had seen all the wonderful reviews so I decided to check this place out to see what was FACT and what was FICTION. As I have lived in the area for over 20 years (not just a tourist passing by). and I hadn't eaten a burger for a few years. I decided to take my best friend and we headed off. The decor inside was great. It was very reminiscent of a restaurant I have been to in Virginia that made handmade burgers, shakes and fries. The owner had bought in most of the stuff from the US which was great. They cook one order at a time and only need one English menu. Once the previous order has been cooked then they cook your order so it takes time as the burger is made and cooked fresh. A very, very simple menu: burger and bun = 950 yen if you would like cheese you pay an additional 200 yen. Onions and mushrooms cost an extra 300 yen. I choose the maple bacon so I paid 1,250 yen for my burger w/maple bacon (950 yen + 300 for the maple bacon). It looks bigger in the photo on FB but it is still a good size. My friend eats like a horse and she was full. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed with the size (especially with the price) however by Japanese standards the burger was more than big enough. We were both disappointed at the meagre and I mean meagre portion of French fries which cost 350 yen for the FF. That is 1,600 yen for a very good burger and meagre fries. The sauce that accompanies the fries was great but man what happened to putting fries on a plate that actually covered the plate. The owner likes to talk about his video and how high is rating was, etc, etc. If you like to listen to someone just talk about himself for 25 mins then I guess you could call that being friendly. Never tried to make conversation with me, other than asking me where I had learnt about his restaurant. The fact is that Fukuoka is a small place with a limited English speaking expat population so it wouldn't be that difficult to learn about this place without the need to use the internet. The type of customers that come here are mostly foreigners that are traveling through Fukuoka and haven't eaten a real American burger in a while. When I was there, there was one American couple passing through. One guy from Switzerland who was also passing through and a local Japanese couple I think. There are alternatives such as,'The Basket' and at least 3-4 other burger restaurants that are owned by Americans and who know how to make a real burger just as good if not better than US Burgers. Make sure you buy and eat some French fries from McDonald's before going and just order one of the 4 burgers they offer. We ended up paying 2,750 yen for the 2 burgers, a portion of FF and 2 glasses of water. I would rather go to Hamakatsu and eat 'real' Japanese fried food for the same price. If you are local, go to GUSTO and get their half-priced menu. Their French fries for 200 yen is...
Read moreI tried this place today as it kept coming up in searches for burgers and for restaurants in Daimyo. The food really hit the spot.
Best points: Simple menu - just choose a single or double burger and add toppings or sides as you wish. The burger is 100% beef and it's made in front of you. The homemade barbecue sauce complements the burger and fries perfectly. It's not too sweet or sour or smoky. Just right. Real Coke in a glass bottle. I keep a mental record of restaurants that stock it. I like real junk, not synthetic. Nice toilet and hand washing facilities with a decent basin and paper towel. It makes a difference to me!
I had a nice chat with the owner and the cook. The decor is airy and pleasantly simple. Most of the seating is at one of two counters. There are a few small tables. The music is nice and a non-intrusive volume. We sat at the counter by the chef and those chairs are very comfy.
For my kid, I ordered a basic burger with an extra topping of bacon for him and a side of fries. For myself, I got a basic burger with 2 toppings (bacon, and mushroom & onion), fries, coleslaw and a Coke. The total was 2800 yen for these 9 items.
We can't eat bread so we had bunless burgers (see the photos) and the chef kindly suggested making my son's dish simpler (for kids) and giving me loads of iceberg lettuce leaves to wrap the burger and toppings, which worked really well. The food is nice and hot when it arrives and you can also get a real knife and fork.
The fries are thinner than most other places but they are not skinny fries. They are savoury and crispy on the outside. The coleslaw is exactly how I like it (having gone a bit soft from the dressing). My son wasn't in the mood to try it = more for me.
Keep in mind the burger is all beef, and not the kind of soft patty like a frikadel that would have onion, breadcrumbs, milk, etc. Simple is best for me.
It's easy to find, on the 5th floor of a small building with other restaurants. There's a big picture sign board on the ground outside. I...

almost 1,000 reviews and 99% of them are 5 stars. It is well deserved.
I'm not a big burger lover, but this was hands down the most delicious burger I had in my life. The owner is a real live american and the restaurant is popular among westerners. He is friendly and the service was great, fun to talk to and hear about his motivations too.
The restaurant itself isn't too big, about 10 - 12 people can sit at the bar (around the chef) and theres another 2 or 3 tables at the back but it has a really nice atmosphere.
The food is phenomenal. Every single aspect is fresh and home made (aside from the fries which are imported from europe). The burger patties are hand made from fresh high quality beef, the bacon is cured and smoked by the owner himself (and honestly its some of the best bacon I've had in asia. Much better than any other american style bacon I had). The burger sauces are also home made. really really delicious. As i said, best burger I ever had, and honestly, the value for money is really great too. You'll pay only around 10$ per person so for such a delicious (and filling) meal, its great value for money and it competes with Japanese food which is equally delicious but usually 4 or 5x more expensive. I also overheard other americans there saying it was the best they had too which was great to hear! (I'm british so clearly know nothing about burgers). The only other thing to mention, is it totally fell apart in my hands and I made a giant mess. I don't mind the mess because it was so delicious though.
Overall, one of my favourite meals in Japan and WELL worth a visit if you happen to find yourself in Fukuoka. I could imagine some people making a yearly pilgrimage even if they live outside of fukuoka...
