The place closes early at 3pm and we made it there at 2:30pm after walking over from the cruise ship at Motohakone-ko. The restaurant was empty and it looks antiquated but it’s a gem! The owner was very friendly he showed us his photos of Mount Fuji and spoke in Japanese about where to take lovely scenes of the mountain. We would have more fun conversing if we spoke Japanese! Food was easy to order on the menu with English. Meal was extremely satisfying and memorable. The smelt fish from the local lake is delicious and pork in boiled cutlet very juicy and has lovely fats. Their soba was springy and refreshing. I think this place is famous with the locals as many signatures, even by radio station, was put up on the wall. We will definitely go back...

The owner hardly spoke any English but was able to communicate well. Even with the language barrier, you could tell this man was very genuine and kind. He came over to our table several times bringing our brochures for things to do in Hakone even though we didn’t ask. He just wanted us to have a good time. We enjoyed the food as well.
