I am a serious "Coffee Snob" from Australia and was visiting Japan for the first time. I found there was a lot of coffee in Japan, from vending machine and 7eleven ice coffee and also plenty of cafes, basically coffee everywhere but most of it terribly bad. When im away and im looking for the calibre of coffee that Im used to I usually search for roasters as I figure if anyone should know about specialty coffee, hopefully it's the roasters. I did my usual googling when I was in Hiroshima and found a couple of very nice coffee's (Akam Coffee Works) was not one of my search results but one day while exploring I stumbled past their front door. From the start, the atmosphere was screaming "trendy Melbourne coffee shop", the decor, smell and vibe of the place is beautiful but that was only the start. I was greeted by a man that I would later discover was a true coffee artist/scientist. As I sat and decided what to sample, I was impressed by the attention to detail and carefulness of the sole barista. I ordered my drink and my cafe latte did not disappoint, the coffee was smooth, perfect strength, temperature and taste which was a very welcome cup after all of the majority of disappointing coffee I had sampled elsewhere in Japan. The highlight of my visit to the store was watching the "Barista" (although he was clearly much more than that) I could have sat at that counter for hours watching the Coffee artist painstakingly, lovingly and precisely preparing every aspect of each drink as if it was the only cup in the world. If you love coffee, do yourself a favour and take the time to visit Akam Coffee Works...

Read moreEasily in the top three of the ~20 coffee shops we visited on our trip to Japan. The barista here was meticulous in his preparation of our drinks. I got the Thailand and it was a very smooth cup of coffee. Wife got the hot honey ginger drink and it was definitely the best non-coffee drink we had on our trip.
Menu is in both Japanese and English and the barista spoke enough English for us non-Japanese speakers to communicate well. If you are in the area, I highly recommend trying this place, you will not be...
