townsfolk came up as I was browsing the Hario Cafe website and they were listed as the roasters for the cafe's summer 2025 blend. Since I planned a trip to Kanazawa, it only made sense to drop by the shop directly. Kurasu also highlighted this store so you can search for more backstory there.
I dropped by on a weekday afternoon, it was probably half-full. Pretty easy to find: the entry is across from the gas station on one side and the main seating windows overlook a children's park.
As usual, I only buy coffee beans from roasters I hold an interest in and often not in the mood for sipping or sampling anything. I'm sure a sweaty sun-roasted tourist just looking to buy bags of coffee out of the blue is weird but that's what happened.
To recap the quick backstory: the owner was previously the head roaster for Prolog so that explains the blue bags on sale in the shop (imported from Prolog Copenhagen each month); the white bags are his in-house offerings. Light coffee is not everyone's preference but I will gladly make extra stops for it. The store also carries MK Studio wares likely due to the owner's past Denmark connections.
The Ethiopia Gogogu I bought is light and tea-like, which fits my preferred profile and matches the description on their site. Roast profile is pretty much in line with the lighter roasters I order from the States. Their inventory changes every few weeks so best to check the website a few days before a visit if you're looking to purchase specific beans. They also offer drip bags for convenience.
If you're in the area, definitely stop by and support a local business. For people who like light coffee and specific about their origins, you won't be disappointed here. So nice to find a specialty roaster outside of the clusters in Osaka and Kyoto. I wouldn't say any coffee shop is worth a pilgrimage given the absurdity of such a thing. If not around the city, order online to ship...

We tried the latte, drip coffee, and mocha, and each one was excellent—smooth, flavorful, and clearly made with care. The shop itself has a warm and inviting atmosphere, with big, bright windows that make it a perfect place to sit, relax, and people-watch while enjoying your drink.
Beyond just the coffee, the overall experience was great. The space feels thoughtfully designed, making it an ideal spot to take a break, whether you’re looking to start your day or unwind in the afternoon. We loved it so much that we ended up buying some beans to take home, which speaks to the quality of their roast. If you're in the area and love good coffee, this is definitely a place...
