For a first visit to Kanazawa, I’ve dined at many places from fresh market eateries to fine dining omakase. This restaurant was the only one to disappoint. I gave a low score 2-star because of the poor customer service. If you want more details, read on.
Being first time to this restaurant, our table needed a little more time to go through the menu. This was unacceptable to the chef, who may possibly be the manager or the owner. He came to the table and told us we are taking too long to order. He spoke bluntly and the arrogance surprised everyone at our table.
Good customer service would have been to offer assistance to help customers. Instead the chef made us feel like we did something wrong. We went on to order our food and the experience of the evening was completely spoilt. This level of customer service is the worst I’ve seen in Japan and the reason why I give a 1-star for the service.
We ordered Nihonshu, Highball & soft drinks. Food was a standard course showcasing a variety of sushi’s. Compared to other sushi places, it is okay but the dishes weren’t outstanding. Average food is why I give a 3-star for the food.
Atmosphere is comfortable overall. It has spacious seating and presentation is good as you can expect from most Japanese establishments. 4-star for the atmosphere.
We arrived at 6pm on the hour. Drinks were ordered at 6:05pm. Food was ordered at 6:15pm. Food was served from 6:20pm. We finished eating, paid and left at 6:45pm.
Verdict: I cannot recommend a restaurant that gives bad customer service. Go dine at a restaurant that welcomes their...
Read moreI'm on a trip with my mother to Japan, and among the first cities, we visited Kanazawa. The restaurants are all average, with a few 5-star exceptions, but putting 5 stars on this place is actually an insult since it deserves at least 6: in addition to the menus, they have some sets of proposals by the chef, (very nice and sociable and even comes to the tables to hear the opinions of customers), and we took the one with 7 pieces of fresh sushi, miso soup, side dish of your choice (fried shrimp and fried cheese a real goodness), salad and sake of your choice. The journey is still long, but I don't think we will eat sushi like this again. The place is cozy and the staff helpful and capable, and talking also with some gestures can break the language barrier, although I must say that they spoke English quite well. The street is a side street of the main Kanazawa, and although a bit hidden it is worth looking for. , although I must say that they spoke English quite well. Read moreExcellent food. The chef was friendly and nice - he did check with all the foreign customers that they knew it was a sushi restaurant - maybe he's had some bad experiences with tourists before. Anyway, as soon as we'd established that we were here for the sushi the service was excellent. I had only a range of nigiri and let the chef choose the fish (omakase). They were all excellent. My companions had mixed sets and really enjoyed those. The chef and some of the waiters speak pretty good English, and were able to tell us the English names of the various fish. Excellent value, especially given the quality of the food. I was also interested to be introduced to the music of...
