We happened upon this cute small business eatery, while we were in Kyoto. We came here based on the reviews on Google and it did not disappoint. The food here was delicious! We arrived right when they opened and they had no customers yet. They seemed hesitant at first, I think because we were foreigners but they invited us in. Our party included 4 people, my husband and I plus our two kids (15 and 10 years old). They didn't speak much English at first, so we ordered by pointing on the menu.
All the food was delicious. The beer, macaroni salad, pork skewers, karage, everything we ate was very good. Our kids loved it too. While cooking, the cook started talking to us about where we were from and they were very friendly. They had to warm up to us tho. We enjoyed our conversation while we ate and when we left, they gave us a souvenir of an old Japanese coin. We enjoyed our time here and will definitely stop by again next time we come. We came from Las Vegas.
(I did see another 5 foreigners try to eat there but they were denied. I think because it's hard for them to serve too many of the English speaking language or maybe the party was too big. I would suggest to arrive early so you can be the first...
Read moreThe food was good. I think the restaurant is run by a husband and wife. I was the only person there and they did not seem keen on my single foreign female status. In this completely empty restaurant they asked if I had a reservation, acted like they couldn't take me and then put me in the corner. When I left, only one other local couple had come in and the restaurant was still empty. So, their hospitality left a bad taste in my mouth. It's a cash only establishment. They tell you this adamantly as soon as you walk in. They drove another foreign couple off this way. Maybe they don't like foreigners? You must buy an alcoholic drink. The food is tasty but nothing extraordinary. The service, after the initial awkwardness, was fine. I mean, it's bar seating, and I was the only one there, so it was kind of hard to...
Read moreAmazing spot! Food was delicious and the atmosphere was super pleasant. Owners were super kind too. Even gave us an old yen coin as a souvenir.
Very homely atmosphere and lots of care in the food. We were foreigners and didn’t understand any Japanese but the owners speak English so it wasn’t hard to communicate. We still could enjoy the atmosphere even though we couldn’t understand the language.
Drinks and food were amazing. Smoking inside is also ok too after 8:30 pm, which was great and added to the experience.
Doesn’t have many seats but these types of places usually...
