551 Horai JR Kyoto Isetan Store — Restaurant in Kyoto

This is just a take-away outlet inside the Depachika of JR Kyoto Isetan and not the full restaurant that is also available inside the JR Kyoto Station.

The line is always long for this outlet and we visited 2 times during our stay in Kyoto since their butaman or pork buns are really good 👍👍👍 and the price are good value as well. On second visit, we also tried their pork shumai box as well and they're also really good. They provided mustard as condiment to enjoy the shumai dumplings and butaman buns.

Total costs were just about ¥ 970 inclusive of 10% consumption tax for 2 butaman buns and 6 pork shumai dumplings, which is really great value for your money if you need quick and satisfying meals. We missed 551 Horai when we were in Osaka, but luckily they also have outlets in Kyoto. You can pay with V/MC payment cards so no need to worry whether you have enough 💴 cash in...

Nothing special, but it is usual 551 store. Fast, tasty( not cheap anymore ). I was hungry and have not had 551 butaman over 10 years and as soon as arrived in Kyoto station, heading to here to eat in.

Staffs are hard working and could see long line to get take out pork buns outside of the store. Eat in is more faster than take away.

We ordered few things but always the pork bun is the best to have. This is the west of Japan’s MacDonald. And so much better than MacDonald. I am originally from Kyoto and used to lived in Osaka, too so it has emotional reason why I like here :)

Very cheap classic Chinese dimsum food. I got the siumai and pork buns. The siumai is a bit lacking in flavor, but it's ok for the price. I really enjoyed the pork buns though. The pork buns were really tasty and are cheap as well! I would definitely come back to buy more of them.
