Cafe Takahashi — Restaurant in Kyoto

Ran by a local family, we dined in their beautiful back garden with beautiful red maple tree and greeneries. A quiet homey atmosphere, it was a nice break away from the surrounding hectic tourist traps.

The salad appetizer showed thoughts in preparation and the home-made miso dressing was so good that both the kiddos asked for seconds. The also home-made curry sauce had perfect balance of spice flavor and sweet aroma. The pork and chicken katsu had great crunch on the outside and perfectly cooked juicy-ness on the inside.

Cute and cozy cafe. Easy to stop by on the way to or from the bamboo groves & all the nearby attractions. Seems like they get a couple locals that like to come and chat. However, relatively overpriced (1700 yen for curry rice/omurice) which probably comes with the area, and my beef mushroom curry rice was sad. Probably only 2 very small pieces of beef in there and a handful of mushroom slices, and I was hungry enough 2 hours later to eat an entire plate of shrimp pasta at a different cafe. My sister's omurice tasted entirely of ketchup flavoring, it was so orange it tinted the edges...

Excellent food, coffee and desserts, even better ambiance. A 5 minute walk from the throngs of fanny pack toting hordes through a really peaceful neighborhood, this place feels like going to grandma’s house. Really can’t recommend highly enough, service was excellent and very kind. Sit in their peaceful Japanese garden! And make sure not to disturb the wa, it’s a peaceful, local place. Felt like a...
