Came in when the place was empty and ordered some upgraded Japanese highballs that were very weak for the price. They didn’t give us oshibori. The second round of rinks seemed like they gave us shochu instead of Japanese whiskey upgrade. We ordered 2 omakase specials ¥4400 each that were quite delicious but we noticed locals got a few dishes that looked way tastier than ours. We asked for 2 sake recommendations and both were excellent! All in all, we had a good time but felt we got less than locals even though we ordered omakase and several rounds of drink. The meal was very rushed. We paid almost $125USD (¥17000)which is very pricey for this area. food was delicious but half our bill was drinks which were VERY weak. They cater to locals and we understood. Set expectations and you’ll have a great time!

A local restaurant we tried in Kyoto, seating is at the bar or there are a few tables inside too. We sat at the bar. We tried 5 dishes from the menu, it’s all Japanese cuisine. Everything tasted very good, the chicken could do with some more seasoning. The corn and the dressing was flavourful, something about the mayonnaise. The tofu skin tasted nice too, first time trying that. My wife got the sushi platter and she thoroughly enjoyed it. All the dishes came at different times, just depended on how long they took to make and if other same dishes were being prepared at the same time.

I rarely post bad reviews but we walked out really pissed from this place. First, we got a table and everything was great. After 20 min, we got told to move tables for another group. This restaurant makes you pay “tourist fees” so we said no. Food came out ok but then got told we only had 15min left before leaving the restaurant. The bill came…we found out they charge ¥400 for a tiny glass of water, the bill was really confusing with no details so we had to figure out who pays what. Compared to the other restaurants in the area, this is disappointing.

Service and atmosphere were fantastic! When we went, it was 2 kind ladies cooking and serving us and they were very hospitable and had an English menu. Cozy vibes, you can watch them cook from the counter and they seat around 16 people in the entire space.

Food was good and some new dishes for us (Kyoto-style) - tempura was super yummy and lightweight. We ordered the daughter’s course which was 5500 yen pp, they gave a ton of food (maybe had 6-7 courses) and we left STUFFED, so we felt it was good value for the price.

Note that you can smoke in the restaurant - we didn’t know before going in and were a little put off by a fellow customer smoking, so just want to give a heads up for folks sensitive to cigarette smoke like us!

Overall a good experience and great to experience local Kyoto food cooked fresh in a lovely...
