Picture this: you duck out of a busy Kyoto rain or the late-afternoon sun and slip down into Kyoto Porta — that pleasantly warm, underground little world right by the station. Down there, tucked between shops, Minoru Dining feels like a friendly secret: soft lighting, warm wood, and the kind of unhurried vibe that makes you breathe out without even realizing it.
The menu reads like comforting Kyoto: seasonal things done simply and well. Think a steaming set meal with perfectly cooked rice, a grilled fish that flakes with a fork, a neat bowl of miso and a few bright little pickles. There are small plates perfect for sharing, a rich, crispy tempura piece to balance the lighter stuff, and usually a sweet, matcha-tinged dessert to finish. Everything tastes honest and made with care.
Sitting there is the nicest kind of relaxed. The staff move calmly; conversations are low and easy. If you’re solo, the counter feels cozy and not lonely. If you’re with a friend, you’ll find it’s simple to chat and nibble without feeling rushed. Pair your food with a chilled beer, hot green tea, or a glass of sake if you’re in the mood to linger.
Little tips: go slightly off-peak — lunchtime right after the morning rush or early evening — and you’ll get a more restful experience. The portions are satisfying but not heavy, so it’s easy to try a few different things. Prices are reasonable; it’s more about relaxed, good-quality food than flashy dining.
When you finish, take your time walking back through the Porta corridors. The station lights feel softer after that warm, slow meal. It’s the perfect stop for recharging between trains, or for a low-key Kyoto night that doesn’t try too hard — just good food, calm vibes, and a little...
Read moreThis place is absolutely a dining paradise for vegetarians! The veggies were so fresh and variety so wide. My family members who are non vegetarians also have a good time with their pork. The sweet potatoes, pumpkins and capsicums were amazingly sweet. It's surreal..... Another plus point was the refillable misio soup and rice, the former was super tasty and rich in ingredients (mushrooms and tofu). I have not expected such a fantastic vegetarian dining in Japan at Minoru Dining at Kyoto Station.
The waitresses were sincerely friendly and extremely friendly. We really had a great warung experience here. Even the grape is of extraordinary.
I'm still savoring the miso soup as I penned this review. This is probably the best miso soup I have had! What a...
