By far, the Richmond Hotel Premier Kyoto Ekimae was the best stay we had during our trip to Japan. The location is absolutely perfect as it has two-way bus stop and is a short walking distance to the Kyoto station. The hotel provides a bag hold service should you happen to check in early or have travel later in your day.||Check in was very prompt and staff were extremely courteous and polite in all respects, acknowledging you some 20-30 feet away when you walk in. They took some time to explain all the features of the hotel which we absolutely appreciated the touch. Please note it is common for hotels to ask for and take a photocopy of your passports during registration. Note that the property will also collect a city tax upon arrival, so do not be alarmed of this small added cost. They were also helpful when we requested taxi service and reservations at nearby restaurants. As a security measure, you have to scan your key card for access to the elevator to your room.||We stayed there twice, one night in a “Standard Twin” and another in a “Standard Double”. For couples wishing to maximize space, the Standard Twin was a larger room for us and the beds could be combined into a supersized King bed, whereas the Double is a smaller room overall. The hotel features an amenity self-serve section to take what supplies you need, as well as a complimentary dessert during the afternoon AND a complimentary drink/snack at night (as of this writing). The property is newly renovated and includes a nice little zen garden feature in the main area, spacious rooms (by Japan standards).||Room was pristinely clean, modernly appointed and includes complimentary bottled water for two, disposable slippers, storage safe, and use of nightwear. Toilet includes a modernized bidet with heated seat and adjustable functionality. Zero complaints from either of us – our experience with the Richmond Hotel Premier Kyoto Ekimae is that they exemplify world class service and hospitality in every respect. We will definitely stay here again on our next trip to Japan. Highly highly recommended!||Please indicate if you found this review to be helpful as it will allow me to better focus my future...
Read moreWe loved this hotel. For the price we paid, you can’t do much better location wise. Also, the amenities and customer service were top notch. All were phenomenal. Our booking was for the Comfort Double Room.
The hotel is very close to Kyoto station. There’s also a couple bus stops very close by. The hotel is beautiful, it offers a more traditional Japanese style inside even in the hotel rooms. The bed was surprisingly comfortable. We were a bit tight on space, we ended up having to put most of our bags and items on the tatami floor.
We were a bit annoyed with the cleaning service. The hotel clearly states to choose your room cleaning preference via the TV in your room. It also says that in order to maintain a clean room, the hotel requires the cleaners to clean your room at least once every 3 nights. This was completely fine. The problem is, we stayed for 5 nights. We asked the cleaners to clean our room after the 3rd night, which they did. After our room was cleaned, we changed the cleaning preference via the TV to “do not disturb” for the 4th and 5th night. The cleaners ended up cleaning our room every night. What was the point of offering “do not disturb” if you’re going to disturb anyway?
The other downside is that their dryers did not work well at all. The washers were fine. But the dryers did not dry. Even after paying for three cycles of dry only, our clothes were still wet. We ended up having to hang our clothes all around the room to air dry.
The last downside is our room faced right out towards the street in front of the hotel. This street is a lot busier than I would have thought. We heard cars zipping by all day until about 9 pm. There is a hospital/clinic near by, and we often heard the sirens of their emergency vehicles going off. Thankfully the room does offer an air humidifier/purifier in the room, so we placed that by the window and turned it on to help cover the outside noise
With all that being said, we would definitely stay here again. Most of the downsides are ones the property could improve on. For the one about the outside street noise, of course the property can’t do too much about it. Just be sure you’re...
Read moreBooked a corner triple room here for two nights during our stay in Kyoto. Check-in and check-out was very fast and convenient. The entire hotel staff were all helpful and polite. The lifts would sometimes be too busy and you would have to wait a while to go up or down. There is a picturesque small garden just before you enter the hotel lobby. The hotel offers pyjamas to its guests.||Given that space is so scarce in Japan, the area of around 27 square meters was more than enough for us. You could open your luggage inside the room without taking too much space. The three beds were all comfortable to sleep on. The pillows were also okay. The only drawback was I could hear some of the other guests on the upper floor moving and walking. The room has an air-conditioning and heating system. You may take the toilet amenities and what not on the ground floor just beside the elevators.||||The bathroom is not that spacious but very clean. My only problem was the shower head was not attached to the area where the bathtub is. If you are not careful you would easily wet the entire floor of the bathroom. So it would be best to put the shower head on the bathtub before turning it on to avoid water spilling all over the area. The water heater was working perfectly and everything else was very clean. The toilet bowl is inside a small room separate from the shower area.||||As for the location, the hotel is just a few minutes walk from Kyoto Train Station and just beside a couple of restaurants. Kyoto Tower is also very near the hotel. Beside the hotel is a clam soup restaurant which seems to have long lines at all times of the day.||||Breakfast was superb. There was a salad station, fruits, all sorts of drinks, bread and pastries, hot dishes, cold dishes. Just make sure to get a breakfast coupon from the front desk as slots are limited and it gets really busy during later times in the morning.||The hotel restaurant offers afternoon tea service from 1pm to 430pm and Japanese local Sake and snacks from 6pm to 830pm. ||Overall my family and kids are all happy with the stay and we will definitely stay at this hotel once more if we were to visit...
