New Sushi Center - Kyoto Porta — Restaurant in Kyoto

My wife and I patiently waited to be seated with a group of two in front of us and a group of two behind us. 10 minutes later we were seated at a counter mostly facing a food storage glass in between the main room and the back room. This should have been the point when we backed out, considering I observed the two Japanese groups get seated at proper tables.

We had taken a photo of the large display near the front counter waiting area, we translated it and it was a detail of the deal of the day essentially. We were patiently waiting approximately 10 minutes before we needed to call a waiter over, this was strike number two for us because we observed waiters bring drinks immediately and take orders from those seated after us.

We attempted to order the deal of the day for about 900 yen, the waiter instead referred us to the English menu where the same photo was listed for about 1750 yen. We showed him the translated photo of the daily special offering photo, he tried to backtrack into saying that’s only for 1 order, we countered that we only wanted one order, he stumbled on a way to try and explain the lie he was caught up in. We politely stood up and said thanks and excused ourselves from the restaurant.

I wouldn’t eat here as a foreigner, several things put together to suggest that they are very unfriendly toward...

FOREIGNERS ARE NOT WELCOMED HERE

Food quality is acceptable for its prices. But, staff service is totally horrendous.

I and my friends came here since 8 pm. They last order at 9 pm. Though, we settle the bill around 9:45 pm.

Suddenly exactly 10 pm, the staff lady came and said "We are closed, please get out". Then she just walked back to her colleagues and they were so enjoyable and laughed that she was so proud of kicking customers out of the restaurant. Seriously, this is how you say to customers?

At least use the proper words, not just like customers are no more useful for them and just kick us out. What the hell?! We were not even received any thankfulness from those staffs when we left. It was like during working time they talk nicely, but after their work finishes, they just cursed you out.

Waitress with the pink hair was very friendly and tried her best to help us even though we didn't speak Japanese. She made us feel comfortable and even came back to check in on us for last call orders. Food came out fairly quickly after ordering and the waitress explained to us what the items were.
