Cost higher than may first appear...
I remember this place 3 years ago. I haven't been to Kyoto since then and wanted to stop in. All has remained the same, except they have self-service machines now, which is great if you only speak English (as Japanese and English are the self-service languages) - prices remain the same no matter which language is used but this reveals something else .
My main gripe is that a lot of things which should come as standard are now "add-on" cost: such as sour-cream and salsa as example are additional costs (guacamole, cheese, even jalapenos: fair enough, most places charge for this). So the price very quickly escalates up an extra 30%-50% than is the initial displayed price you plan on spending.
It was busy with tourists, so obviously most don't mind this escalation in price - I just felt it was a little exploitative, like going to a burger shop and paying extra for onions, sauce and pickles.
MAYBE, just maybe this is a miscommunication and you're ordering "extra" of many of these things but that is not what is indicated. Food is a solid 4(ish)☆ if you're not...
Read moreOverall i am sure we will come back again. I got a med burrito and a hibiscus tea. The portion was just right. I think a large would be good if one is really hungry. The burrito was ok, a bit on the dry side, the rice was a bit hard telling me its probably a bit old. I think more beans, meat and less rice would help it since it was more of a rice burrito to me. Also the extra sour cream was separate and not added in the burrito which threw off the flavor for me. The hibiscus tea was good but i guess being from LA i was a bit disappointed it wasnt sweet like the “jamaica” in LA but could just be a US thing. My wife got the burrito bowel and she really liked it, the rice got moistened by the guac and pico that it had so she didnt get the hard rice like i did in my tortilla burrito. The location is good, the AC keeps you comfortable and plenty of seating. I recommend the place if you want something latin-ish and not a stickler how it’s not exactly like SoCal burritos. I assume the OC in the name stands for Orange County...
Read moreAs a vegetarian from Northern California, not in love with the seaweed flavor omnipresent in the local food, and unable to partake in the sushi and ramen love fest my significant other is enjoying, let’s say this place’s vegetarian burrito hit the spot.
It has the right combination of authentic guacamole, spicy salsa, slightly salty chips, that took me back right to home.
The food is legitimately delicious. The consistency is perfect. And, should you wish for something spicy, Chalula sauce- yes, the real Cholula sauce, is available.
They have vegan options also- I did not try them. The food is very reasonably priced.
Come with reasonable expectations and you will leave with a full and happy stomach.
The staff is very polite, as has been the tenor of this trip. Just point to the laminated card, tell them the size of the burrito, and you’re all set.
Important: the name of the joint has changed to OC burrito. It’s located in the food court in the first floor of...
