Ogawa Coffee - Kyoto Station Central Entrance — Restaurant in Kyoto

Don't be persuaded to go in here by the convenience factor. I had around 45 minutes to kill whilst waiting for a train and this place turned out to be ideally located. And kill time I did. Unfortunately, not in the way that I would have expected. I sat for around 10 mins whilst being ignored by the waiters, stood in the non-existent "line" for another 10 minutes or so and then waited for my cup of tea for a breezy 15 minutes. By the time it arrived it was tepid, weak and without milk.

I could literally hear my train coming into the station, so calculating I did not have the required 10 minutes or so to get an additional cup of milk, I quickly downed the tea and ran, not best happy that what should have been a relaxed drink in a cafe turned into a race against time and me being figuratively robbed of $10 for a luke-warm cup of water.

Japanese restaurants and cafes are the best places in the world for service and quality. This cafe stands out as a prominent exception. Terrible service, waiters that looked bored and irritated that you had set foot in the establishment and all combined with extortionate prices. Avoid...

No breakfast after 11:30, apart from pre-made food or toast. Service wasn't great and the cafe is in a basement of the subway, so not relaxing at all. Didn't try the coffee because it seemed pretty hit and miss. If you're near the cafe it's probably fine, but don't go out of your way to find this place like I did (on our hotels recommendation - I'm learning hotel staff suggest the worst tourist-trap places for food and can't really be relied on - do your own research / go by friends'...

Enjoyed quite alot. Went here twice - has English and Japanese menus. I ordered one each of their cappuccino single origin - Indonesian and Columbian, both really nice. Bought the bread/icecream (can't remember the actual name) which was beautiful. The second time i got the ham/brie crossaint. I've had fluffier croissants before but the brie was lovely.

Staff warm and friendly, able to converse in English as well. Would recommend if you're after good coffee...
