I recently visited a matcha shop and had mixed feelings about the experience. I tried the matcha ice cream, iced matcha latte, and Japanese chai tea. The matcha ice cream had an intense bitterness, which might appeal to some but was a bit overpowering for my taste. The iced matcha latte, unfortunately, was bland and lacked any real depth of flavor. The Japanese chai tea was the best of the three—its flavor reminded me of weak horchata, which was pleasant but not quite as flavorful as I expected from a “chai.”
