Piopiko — Restaurant in Kyoto

went to the bar for a night cap and was a bit disappointed with the service. I understand they were quite busy but coming from the industry, they made a few mistakes that are easy to avoid and have a huge impact on the guest experience.

For one, they took our order which was a glass of sparkling wine and a cocktail. I requested the cocktail to not be too sweet.

They made the cocktail but ended up taking it to the girls next to us, which they then realized was not their order. They also served them before us, when we had arrived first. They then had to remake the order and when the cocktail came out, it was extremely sweet. To make things less complicated I mentioned I would take a glass of sparkling instead and heard the bartender nobody ever asked for a under sweetened cocktail.

I’ll probably end up going back, but I’m giving this feedback so they can learn and improve. Mistakes happen, I get it. But a hotel bar of this caliber should be able to accommodate to simple...

Our stay at Ace Hotel was a perfect experience except the service at this restaurant. After checking out went for lunch and politely asked for a table downstairs, then we were escorted. However while we were heading down, another server came and he insisted us from going down and responded with a solid “use this floor” without any further explanation. We tried to understand since the restaurant was nearly empty, it may have been difficult for the servers to check on the table.

But when we were heading out, there was another group and they were escorted to the downstairs. I don’t know if they are choosing certain guests or there was another reason, but the attitude I experienced was not what I expected for staying at Ace Hotel.. because everyone else at hotel or Stumptown Coffee was friendly and casual. Had a wonderful evening at Piopiko. The atmosphere was wonderful, with very comfortable seating. The service was excellent, the servers and chef were happy to accomodate a dietary restriction I had and were very attentive in making sure everything was okay.

Food was a little pricy, but given the excellent quality and superb service, I was happy to pay it.

Piopiko is very friendly to foreigners, as our server spoke good English, so I would recommend Piopiko for any English speakers who are nervous about ordering in Japanese.

I recommend booking a table through tablecheck, as they have deals for those who do reserve a seat for their course menu.
