Food was nothing special. Cockroaches were unnecessary. 🪳

Overall the food quality itself and presentation was fine, but it was very hard to enjoy with a giant cockroach running around.

The seating area is the traditional style so your feet are in like a lower cubby area. Because of this, it's closed in and apparently cockroaches live down there. It was very hard to enjoy my meal knowing that there were probably more down there.

I'm willing to begrudgingly accept these types of things in countries where the price matches the level of hygiene and cleanliness, but for ¥8000 in Japan, in a restaurant that happily charges a mandatory service fee - in addition to a fee to sit down in the restaurant - I expect there to be no cockroaches running around in the seating area. I don't think that is an unreasonable expectation.

Respect to the waitress who had to crawl under the table to catch the cockroach though. What was somewhat concerning however was the waitstaff didn't seem very surprised but this situation, and I didn't get the impression that they were very apologetic, just a quick word and walk away.

It's unfortunate, because I did enjoy the soup, but not without the lingering thought of how many cockroaches must be in the kitchen area as well.

If you're okay with cockroaches, do yourself a favor and eat in some back alley street restaurant instead. The food quality didn't justify the overall experience and I would not recommend this restaurant to my...

The food was so delicious I even forgot to take a photo of some of what we ordered!! Delicious izakaya fare that is distinct from other food you will try in Japan and even in Kyoto. The stew is soo delicious, you won't regret ordering it! I recommend the soft roe tempura as well. Great price point and lovely vibe.

The staff were so nice and patient when I returned trying to find one of my misplaced bags, several of them carefully checked the room and even the chef came out 😭😭😭 He was so apologetic and kind. I'm so sorry for the trouble and very thankful for your efforts. This was a memorable dinner for us and we will definitely return again the next time we visit Kyoto, and I will recommend this to my friends and family as well.

Food, service, vibe and price, all...

We walked in without knowing what to expect. Well, from the first interaction when we asked in a busy night for two seats they accomadated us with kindness and we found a beautiful note on our part of the shared table. We couldn't understand the menu and one of their lovely staff who spoke good English asked us what type of food we like and then the food was just coming out. We had an amazing experience, we would say like a Michelin star experience with great food and service. Thank you Team for making our night so memorable. Kindness regards from...
