Incredible experience at Sake Hall Masuya. From the moment we stepped inside we were looked after by Sho. He helped us find the best place for us (charges if you want to sit, free to stand at the bar). His English was superb and helped us in every moment.

We are new to sake and told him we wanted to sample a few varieties. From there he took us on a tour of some incredible sakes while sticking to our budget and our alcohol limits.

We wanted to have a few small bites as well. If I was there again that is the only thing I would change. Eat more. The food is some of the best we have tried in Japan!

-Yuba tofu pizza with blue cheese - stunning -Karaage chicken- so juicy and tasty, high quality -Sardine daashi- one of the best meals we have had. Perfect flavor balance when you add the Wasabi sashimi (pufferfish, mackerel and tuna). I never had pufferfish before, all sensational -pickled veg (pumpkin, and more) tasty roast duck (amazingly prepared. With some shockingly delicious wedges on the side)

I have to comment on the overall feel too. This place feels so cool, so friendly, not touristy yet inviting to tourists. It represents all of what is great about Japan (friendliness, service, atmosphere, culture, taste, umami, and so much more)

Top of our recommendation list to all of our friends from now on. Sho deserpves a lifetime award for his kindness. Even the young Staff are being so well looked after and learning the right...

I wanted to sample sake, which I know little about, in a nice environment. When reviewing restaurants we found this place that has a wide sake selection, other drinks, and a nice food menu. We were welcomed with a small welcome appetizer and sake. The service was welcoming, attentive, friendly and informative regarding questions about the sake. I ordered a sake sampler, and then a glass of the one type I liked the best, and my wife ordered a drink. We had four items from the food menu, and everything was excellently prepared and presented. If I return to Kyoto I definitely am returning to...

If you’re reading this, you’re probably a tourist looking for a place to eat. Look no further.

We loved this place! Great staff, great sake and great food! If you’re wondering where to go in Kyoto, this is your place!

Sashimi and tempura were fantastic. We enjoyed 3 different sakes and everything was reasonably priced.

Very...

This is my favourite sake hall in Japan. As a foreigner from Australia, I was welcomed by numerous staff and the service was exceptional, even on a busy night. I was able to show photos of my previous visits even sitting in the same seat at the bar. What a great finish to my night. I can’t rate this sake hall highly enough.
