A Fantastic Restaurant in Kyoto
It was really hot in Kyoto today, so I was craving some good shaved ice dessert. But one person in our group wanted something hot to eat, so we ended up at this restaurant that Google recommended.
I didn’t expect the beef sushi to be so delicious. It came with three different parts of the beef - chuck, top round, and sirloin. All three were amazing because the beef was super high quality.
The chicken leg, which was a special for the day, was also outstanding. The skin was crispy and the meat was cooked perfectly. I don’t know how the chef did it, but it was really good.
The shaved ice was excellent - nice and soft, not too sweet. Later I realised that the matcha they use is sourced locally in Kyoto.
The owner of the restaurant was a fine gentleman. He said he put a lot of work into this place, and even got his friend to hand-draw all the paintings on the walls.
I'm really glad I tried this restaurant. It was a great...

Our waiter (who I later found out was the owner) was so friendly and accommodating. They had English menus and went out of their way to explain the menu.
My wife and I both ordered set meals for around 4800 yen and I got the "all you can drink" on top. They were extremely quick about bringing me new drinks any time I finished one. All 6 courses that we had were delicious.

As a Canadian, a meal like this would be well over $300 CAD for 2 people, and my bill tonight was around 12000 yen. I felt like I was stealing from them at those prices. Just go and...

The chicken tempura was surprisingly moist and tender - highly recommended. A far cry better than the chicken jerky peddled at Nishiki market. The kyoto-style meat sushi had a lot going on with the smoke, salted seaweed, and different cuts of meat, but it was surprisingly satisfying and delicious without feeling kitschy. I did wish it was a little hotter, but I understand the body temperature preference a la sushi.
One kakigori was large and satiating enough for two, but was heavy on the puree and light on condensed milk. The matcha ice cream was surprisingly rich, and paired well with the kakigori and finishing tea.
