I chose this restaurant based on the positive reviews on Google. Unfortunately, the service fell far short of expectations. The waitress in charge of handling the bill - who had long hair and long nails (unfortunately, I didn’t catch her name) was quite rude. When we politely pointed out that an item we ordered had been cancelled by the kitchen and asked for the bill to be adjusted, she responded with visible attitude. After confirming with the waitress who had been serving us, she made the adjustment - but did so reluctantly, tossing the bill onto the table and glaring at us, which was completely uncalled for. We had waited 20–30 minutes during non-peak hours for our food and never once complained. Even when we were informed that one of the items had been cancelled by the kitchen, we remained polite and respectful. So it was confusing and disappointing to be treated with hostility simply for asking that the bill reflect what we actually received. I’ve visited Japan many times and dined at numerous restaurants across the country. This was the first time I’ve encountered such unwelcoming service—especially surprising in a country known for its exceptional hospitality. I understand that everyone can have a bad day, and we don’t know what this young lady might have been through. However, taking it out on customers is not acceptable. As tourists, we always try our best to be mindful of local customs and culture. In return, we hoped to be treated with the same...
Read moreRacism and discrimination towards tourists here.
I went here with my parents as foreign tourists. We asked for a table of 3, the receptionist/waitress at the cashier asked if we had a reservation. We didn’t and so they denied us, saying that upstairs was full. This was fine so far as we understood that restaurants with little space meant that the food was good.
However, there was a Japanese couple behind us, who were also looking for supper. Clearly, they had no reservation as they took a while to look at the menu with us outside the restaurant.
While we were about to leave, the waitress started to bring in the couple— the couple without a reservation and behind us—in our stead. My parents tried reasoning with them but to no avail. They pretended to act like they didn’t understand our English, and brought other staff only to repeat “full” with the frustrating double-finger❌ sign.
This is unmistakably an act of discrimination towards tourists and has been reported to the Kyoto...
Read moreThe food here is absolutely atrocious. All the yakitori are terribly burnt and pretty much inedible. We had even asked the waitress beforehand if the food contained any meat innards (because we don't eat them), she told us confidently that there isn't. Only after the food was served did we realize we had been served chicken hearts. We had to throw it away in the end. The prawns were also half overcooked while half were incompletely cooked and raw in the centre and were 500 yen each for the small size. The scallops were very small for 500 yen each. The food is also very expensive and costed us almost 15000 yen for 4 people who were not full. The waitresses were very racist too. They assumed that we were from china simply because we were non-japanese speaking asians despite us clearly speaking English to them. Perhaps they can consider educating themselves about the many different countries in asia. Not every Asian is strictly...
