Pound Kyoto Ekimae — Restaurant in Kyoto

This is a very casual restaurant and by the number of non Japanese in there ,one would think it made the Lonely Planet. We ordered the 5 cuts Kobe beef. 2 of the cuts were chewy and tasted average but the other 3 rocked my world. The 5 cuts are the only options for kobe beef. The rest of the menu is just regular beef so don't kid yourself into thinking the $16 dish you ordered is Kobe. The 5 cuts selection doesn't come with any sides like rice. When it came out, I didn't think it would be enough food but the beef is so rich, it fills you up .I read another reviewer complain that the grill was too hot We had the exact opposite experience we're only one side of the grill actually seared the meat. Restaurants the serve real Kobe are pretty fancy so if you want to try it without the hassle of getting all gussied...

SCAM. Pictures are showing the meat pieces for each dish but our plates werent including the same number than on the pictures. The waiter said the meat is paid by "grams" but nowhere is written the number of grams or even that it is the way the restaurant works. Funny for a restaurant named "Pounds". Hence we had 5 small pieces of Kobe beef instead of 6. Of course the price will remain same.

We ordered 3 dishes of meat by showing the pictures because the staff doesnt speak english. 1 dish has been forgotten...

Also we ordered and pointed at a white wine bottle on the menu... and got a red wine bottle.

Besides, the meat is good. Even though the price is verrrrry high for the value. 140 yen for 4 and I am starving!!!

Wont recommend this place as I am sure you can find a better deal...

Very poor experience. First, our dishes were ordered wrong, our beef tongue was ordered twice. Then, after we opened the new spoons from their bags, they were dirty. We then asked to replace the bibimbap because we accidentally used one of the spoons to mix the rice. The staff were clearly not happy and it went downhill from there. We'd ordered their most expensive kobe beef, and yet we were told we could not replace the grill to grill the beef after it got dirty. Asked for the manager and was told we needed to pay 200 yen to replace the grill. We have never ever seen this in the hundreds of barbecue restaurants we've been to. Showed this comment to manager, no apology. Would not...
