Location was good as it was about a 7 minute walk from JR Kyoto Station.
The bed spaces were not clean. There was so much dust everywhere. I was on a bed at the bottom (a poorly put together frame with the thinnest mattress I've ever seen. (You can feel the wood through the mattress), the curtains were very dusty like they haven't been washed since they were put up. The quilt smelt and you weren't provided a quilt cover, just a sheet they asked you to put on you before you put the quilt on top of you? I suffer with really bad allergies and this place made me quite unwell. When I looked down the side of the bed and the cabinet, the wall and floor was thick with dust/fluff. When you turn on the lamp provided you can see it all floating around.
We only stayed there 2 nights and couldn't wait to leave to be honest. The top bunk is a large wooden frame which seems like it has seen better days. Very creaky, nothing is fixed to the floor so when my partner would get up onto her top bunk the whole platform on stilts was moving. I dont think it's very safe especially if you're on the larger side.
Overall I wouldn't reccomend staying at this hostel unless you are absolutely OK with...
Read moreWhat an experience, Kyoto during early March was so calm and relaxed, and was a nice break from the pace of large cities like Osaka. Hana hostels really helped with making me feel at home whilst I was here. Not only is it really close to Kyoto Station but also a major monument in Higashi Hongan-ji Temple. The staff were extremely accommodating, giving recommendations on their favourite places to see and eat in the city and making every visitor feel a part of the furniture in this hostel. I'd like to give a special shout out to Emiko, one of the management at Hana Hostel, she really stands out, her language ability is impeccable and is practically the mum of the establishment, she gave me so many tips on not only Kyoto but the rest of Japan as well. A valuable member of staff who cares a lot about the guests that stay in Kyoto. She even came to say goodbye to me before I left and I said if I came back to Kyoto I'd come see her again. Amazing stay, I'd recommend Hana Hostels to anyone, if you're travelling, working, or even a student, however long you're in Kyoto for, it's the best choice for an affordable stay, and you'll meet some amazing people in the process. Thank...
Read moreI stayed in Hana Hostel for one night and had a bunk bed. When I arrived early, I was informed that the room was not ready yet, but I could leave my luggage in the luggage room. Also, the staff settled my registration and showed me around the hostel. ||There is a pretty large kitchen with free tea and coffee that you can brew. I enjoyed the genmaicha here. In this space, you can also interact with other guests. Wifi here is generally strong but it can disconnect you at times. ||Like any hostel, you are expected to fit your own sheets in the bed, and remove them at check out. The bed was pretty comfortable and I liked that they provided curtains around the bunk beds for privacy and to block out the light in the event you want to sleep earlier than other bunk bed guests. The shower has soap and shampoo provided. If you didn't bring your own towel, you can rent one for ¥100.||Overall this was a pretty good stay, and I liked that Lawson's was just on the opposite street so it was easy to...
