What a find! Though limited selection, the couple running this small exceptionally clean place prepare the perfect breakfast. A simple dish like the cheese sandwich is a real treat. Not to mention the selection of coffees. I ordered (and reordered) the cafe latte, which is how it should be ( shame you coffee drink chains). The host displays a selection of real cool electronic audio equipment (like a cool reel to reel magnetic tape recorder) and actually uses it. My wife (+ 2 kids) and I always visit Toru Cafe and have a great coffee/lunchtime when I stay in Kyoto. The owner (Toru) is always polite and diligent like a Japanese craftsman. He and his wife are very respectful of everyone's space and I always enjoy having a small talk with him.

Nice breakfast place which opens early. Please check the opening hours before coming.

Simple looking breakfast but the bread was really well toasted on the outside and soft on the inside. English menu is available as well. Cash payment only. My favourite is the mixed sandwich set. Surprised that there was a tinge of wasabi when I bite the sandwich.
