Within comfortable walking distance from Kyoto Station, passing the beautiful Higashi Honganji Temple, Hanaroku is a great choice for a romantic dinner. We opted for a special set course menu and each dish was nothing short of delicious.
The restaurant itself was very calming, relaxing and the attention to detail in the design and service was excellent. Our dinner felt very intimate and quiet. I thought it was the perfect place for our anniversary celebration and I was actually surprised to see a family seated behind us. And that’s surprised in a good way! I thought it was wonderful that a restaurant could be both family friendly for those traveling with children but also calming and romantic for couples. It’s not an easy balance to strike but Hanaroku managed it.
The staff were attentive and courteous and they seemed to take genuine delight in our enjoyment. It was clear that the chef put a lot of effort and pride into his cooking and the waiters who served us went above and beyond to make sure we were comfortable and happy.
Dining here felt like a special experience and I appreciated that a lot. I would absolutely recommend Hanaroku. It’s the...
Read moreWe unfortunately had a party close to us who had a kid who was way too loud but that didn't take away from the amazing dining experience. To their credit, it seemed like they tried many times to hush the kid but sort of gave up.
The service was amazing. The server was attentive and friendly. She spoke English and there was no problem communicating.
We requested seats at the counter at the time of booking our reservation so we could see the teppanyaki in action but they called prior to our arrival that that accommodation wasn't available. I wondered if such seats were available in the first place as I didn't see any on the way in or out.
The ambiance was very quiet (sans the kid's ramblings) and intimate. The food was amazing. The wagyu melted in the mouth and the portions were generous too. Other courses leading up to it were tasty as well.
They had some cool details. The tea cup for the dessert course had dotted decorations that were thin enough that the light would shine through. Their plates for the condiments had varying artworks underneath the condiments. These details were the icing on the cake, adding to the already...
Read moreHanaroku needs to be Michelin rated or recommended! We had such an amazing 2+ hour culinary experience. Our party of 4 had both the Kiyomizu and Hanaroku set menu. Each course was delicious and beautifully presented. The Wagyu steak was cooked to perfection and literally melts in your mouth. We also tried the flight sake sampler and the host was VERY generous with the sake! 😁 We have dined at fine restaurants including at Michelin rated restaurants and this one was a stand out in terms of quality, outstanding service, ambience, and PRICE! It is truly a hidden gem. The restaurant is located in the Hotel Kanra Kyoto, but you enter from the outside. We highly recommend this restaurant if you’re in Kyoto, and are looking for superb fine dining experience at very reasonable prices. Thank you to Hikaru and his team for making our evening memorable and unforgettable. Your service was outstanding and impeccable! And thank you to the great chef who prepared our wonderful meals, and whom we also got to meet. We will definitely...
