While the food wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t as good as other high-end izakayas in Kyoto. Had the ~10,000 yen set with tablecheck online reservation, which I noticed was different from set/a la carte ordered by locals. The fish in first dish was overcooked. Sashimi were very good. Soumen’s dashi wasn’t any special to warrant its simplicity. Fried items were just OK the flavors of the duck meat ball didn’t really come through and the combination of sweet potato and shrimp in the tempura did not give any surprises. Beef bowl rice was well cooked but I expect a little better with the price and the strong competition in Kyoto. Might have a better experience ordering à la carte, which they seem to allow with the online booking

Omakase restaurant with tasty food. But I agreed with previous reviewers that it might be a good idea to order a la cart instead of the set if we have a choice as foreign tourists. Lots of locals on the night we visited, but none had the noodle or potato salad we got from the set. Btw, This restaurant only take cash. Head chef had zero interaction with us but other staff spoke English well enough to tell you the name of the dishes.

Luces y sombras. Muchas gracias:)

The food was extremely mediocre. The final course — wagyu beef over rice — was so salty it was practically inedible. The chef was cold and unwelcoming, making it uncomfortable to watch him prepare the food right in front of us at the counter. Not a single smile from beginning to end. If you value a welcoming atmosphere while dining, as we do, I would recommend going elsewhere. With so many excellent restaurants in Kyoto, this one is...

Food was extremely disappointing. The restaurant was empty for dinner besides our party of 2.

Dishes: Potato salad Deep fried duck ball Deep fried bun bao 4 pieces of small sashimi Deep fried figs Fried beef on top of bowl of rice Conger pike eel deep fried and served in soup

For the price, of $100+/ person CAD, we truly stepped away feeling disappointed. We ended up getting quick eats on B1 of Daimaru which felt more fair...
