While the food wasn’t bad, it just wasn’t as good as other high-end izakayas in Kyoto. Had the ~10,000 yen set with tablecheck online reservation, which I noticed was different from set/a la carte ordered by locals. The fish in first dish was overcooked. Sashimi were very good. Soumen’s dashi wasn’t any special to warrant its simplicity. Fried items were just OK the flavors of the duck meat ball didn’t really come through and the combination of sweet potato and shrimp in the tempura did not give any surprises.
