Yamamoto Mambo — Restaurant in Kyoto

CASH ONLY Limited English but very welcoming, saw many locals dining here. A family run business, busy and very attentive.

We ordered a large Japanese noodles Okonomiyaki and a small Chinese noodles Okonomiyaki.

Japanese noodles is thicker and Chinese noodles is thinner. Both were good but we enjoyed the crispness texture of the thin Chinese noodles. The chef prepares the dishes right in from of you. Instead of serving on plates, they place it on hot plate in front of you, to keep it warm and continue cooking if you want it more cooked. You get personal spatulas to serve yourself.

Restaurant is very smoky, you will leave smelling like food. Yummy food though :)

IMO, the Okonomiyaki tastes better than the Michelin Star Mizuno in...

After a lot of sightseeing and running through the city, we just wanted to grab a bite around the corner of our Hotel. Yamamoto Mambo was perfect because we already wanted to try the Okonomiyaki. Around 6 pm, relatively early for dinner, we had no problem getting space for two at the bar. I decided on Japanese noodles and my husband for the classic version. Ate here last April and been meaning to write a review. It was a little hard to find, since I can't read Japanese. Check out the google photos to get an idea of what the store front looks like. The special was two okonomiyaki for I think it was, 10 Yen. You can choose between thicker Chinese noodle, or thinner Japanese noodle. We tried one of each, and was blown away at how good it was.
