Yamashita was far and away one of the most incredible, delicious and heart-warming experiences we have had while in Japan. The food is mostly seafood and unique in that you will undoubtedly try things you've never eaten before (this is however a good thing). The service is on point, and the atmosphere is second to none. There is something about the chefs cooking in-front of you. Also these guys have heat-proof hands which will be sure to amaze some. We had the chef's recommendation/set menu and while we could speak very little Japanese the chefs tried their best to explain to us what we were eating (the food was unbelievable by the way). Once we had finished, we were the only ones left and because it was one of the best meals we'd ever had we decided to buy the staff drinks. The head-chef/owner of the restaurant (who is very hospitable, kind and observant need I say) brought out an old bottle of Japanese whiskey and poured us each a glass, after which time we drank, chatted in broken english and conversed over many different topics. One of the best and most unforgettable experiences we've had. I would recommend this to any and every one who...

A little Omakase place that I had high expectations for and left disappointed. The items were well presented but tasted.. average. For a set priced at 4950 yen, our tempura was not even crispy??? And plain rice was an item??? Cheaper tempura shops were better than this place.

While it was nice to see chefs preparing the meal directly in front of us, I don’t think it’s worth paying this much. The attendant / waitress was extremely attentive and polite though. Everyone was nice too but taste-wise, this just isn’t it, I’m sorry.

Also I think you need a reservation...

An amazing Kyoto style dining experience. Most of the ingredients are freshly prepared in front of your eyes from the water tank to your plate.

Service is very friendly despite the limited English of the chefs. Pointing to your choice with the assistance of hand gestures seems to do the trick. They do have the Menu in English though.

The Oysters are super fresh. The yabby is sweet, full of flavour with a lovely texture. The shiitake mushroom grilled with butter sauce and pressed mackerel sushi complete a memorable experience.

Highly...

We stumbled upon this place by chance so we were totally unprepared. When we entered the restaurant, the waitress in kimono greeted us friendly and showed us the menu immediately to “inform “ us the prices. I decided to give it a try. Unfortunately since we didn’t reserve in advance, we could not sit at the bar and watch the chef cooking. The service was really impeccable. We had ordered several dishes a la carte. The food was good but for me a bit pricey. I expected more for the prices they demand.

We stumbled upon this little gem just off a Main Street. Very friendly staff welcomed us in for lunch. We tried the set menu and were totally impressed with the quality of the food and the expert craftsmanship that the chefs used to prepare the various courses. They were very attentive and friendly and even spoke a little bit of English. A great experience that is more traditional. Not too expensive, well priced for the value of what you get. I would go back again in a heartbeat
