As someone who enjoys calligraphy and painting, this store was the real highlight of my Kyoto trip! A family-owned store with 170+ years of history and handcrafted brushes with the highest quality goat, horse, weasel & more hair, this is THE store to visit to pick up high quality brushes and papers. The father & son owners were incredibly kind, helpful and patient as I took my time to explore and pick up brushes. I have been coming here for years to purchase my brushes and the store owner never let me down. Despite the fact that I am not using their brushes for calligraphy or any type of artwork, their products perfectly match my requirements. I use their brushes to clean sensitive electronics, as they are natural hair based and do not cause any electrostatic discharge. Also those brushes have very fine texture that does not cause any damage to eg. optical lenses.
