A specialty store of dandan noodles and mapo tofu, the main store is a famous store listed in the Michelin Guide. There was already a customer waiting, so I signed my name on the waiting board and waited outside the store.
I ordered Dandan noodles, added 100 yen to make it spicy, and since it was lunch time on weekdays, rice was provided free of charge.
There was a guide to register for an e-mail magazine in the time before the food was served, and after registering, I got a free gyoza ticket.
Adding spiciness was the correct answer. It was the spiciness I was hoping for. I thought the extra spicy above was tough for me. The compatibility with thin straight noodles was outstanding and I ate it deliciously.

Read moreI love Japan - everywhere you go, delicious food aplenty, and Toragen is no exception! A short hop and skip from Nagoya station, this little spot has big flavor. We knew right off the bat that the short wait to sit at the counter style restaurant was a good sign of the food to come. We started with the mapo tofu, garlic gyoza, and the special tantan noodles ramen. The gyoza was cooked perfectly, with a good crunch while still maintaining a chewy internal texture. The ramen (I ordered mild) had a touch of nutty flavor to go with the creamy broth, which still had a hint of a kick to it. The pork belly was tender and rich; the soy egg was a perfect compliment to the broth. The mapo tofu was just right on the spice and full of that wonderful umami flavor. It was so nice, we had to order it twice! Definitely a must visit for anyone passing through...
Read moreHad a most satisfying bowl of Dan Dan ramen in a cozy eatery within walking distance from Nagoya station. The broth was delicious and not too spicy, and the ramen was cooked to perfection - springy and chewy at the same time. Finished the meal with the highly recommended cold tofu pudding - was so delicious that we went for second bowl. The best part was the service - you get a hot towel before the meal and a paper apron to keep your clothes clear from any yummy splatter. To top it off, the staff offered us an umbrella when we were about to leave and it started to pour. Such great hospitality and kindness - thank you! Highly recommended to pay a visit for a one of...
