The Eel rice is definitely above average. However, I had a better one in Fukuoka. It’s good. Pleas don’t get me wrong. Its just not surprising at all - it’s not as crunchy as I thought of the grilled eel skin surface. The source is quite balanced and I like the ?yuzu powder for getting fresh at some point. One thing that I would like to suggest is that it’s so smoky in the restaurant, probably due to the grilling. Hope it could be fixed.
Of coz You can order the big size but I’m sure lots of ppl will just eat the eels instead of finishing the rice as well. I am not sure if you can order less rice so please don’t waste food and I will recommend to order a small one coz it would be a right amount for lunch. If you have the big size, I’m sure you can’t have another meal in the following half day coz it’s too much for one person.
If you stay nearby, you can come in the morning to line up and get the ticket. I was there for queuing up around 0920 and 22 ppl before me already. Thus, my meal time is quite late, around 1310. Btw, the staff is so sweet that distributing the warm pack for all of us.
Tbh, if you’re not live nearby, I won’t recommend you to come in the early morning for getting a ticket. You can save time for other...
Read moreI would say that this is the restaurant you need to visit when in Nagoya. This was easily my favourite meal during Nagoya despite the long and arduous process to line up for a ticket in the morning and having to come back for lunch.
For some context, I came on a cold Sunday morning around 8am and was 8th in line and waited till 930am when they gave out the lunch slots for the day. Lunch slots start from 11am to I think 2pm.
The portions are massive. I went for the large 530gm unagi bowl and it was a beast. Just layers and layers of unagi. What makes the eel so special here is how the chef cooks it over charcoal to give it that smokey smell and taste, which you can witness at the front of the shop.
The staff does not speak a lot of English and there is no English menu, so have Google translate ready. Still they were very kind and friendly and I love the decor of the restaurant; old, wooden, bistro style and charming.
Worth lining up for and visiting, a meal that will live long...

We arrived without a booking and found the restaurant fully booked. Still, the incredibly kind owner graciously let us in, and we’re so grateful for the warm hospitality. 🙏🏻
🍽️ This restaurant only serves unagi, and it’s done to perfection. The charcoal-grilled eel was bursting with flavor—crispy on the outside, tender on the inside. Even our 3-year-old son loved it! 👶🍴
🔥 A truly memorable dinner with heartfelt service and top-tier eel. 🌟 Highly recommended for both taste...
