This place saved us!
Visited yesterday. It was a very stormy day with heavy rain. We intended to have lunch inside the temple complex, but 2 restaurants we we went to were closed (despite google hours saying otherwise, likely due to the heavy rain). We decided to continue on and visit the temples with hungry stomachs because it was already 3pm and everything will be closing by 5:30.
I have so much gratitude for this very cute place being open on such a rainy day. They have an English menu and spoke some English.
We do not drink caffeine, so we had Amazake. They have 3 flavors, and it can be served either hot or cold. I think I got ginger and my partner got Yuzu. They also have little snacks. 1 item we wanted to order was sold out, so my partner and I shared a rice ball covered in red bean paste. The size of the drink and snack were larger than expected,...

I tried their Amatosan (あまとうさん) for ¥1078, which is ice cream greentea with sweet bean paste, warabi mochi, with brown sugar syrup and rice cracker topping. It was so delicious to the point made me speechless lol. You just know when tried it, their matcha was just on the next level. It was pricey, I know, but trust me it...
Happiness of eating green tea and specialty warabimochi in front of Daikokuten-sama in the precincts of a famous historical temple.
Both the warabimochi and matcha are not cheap, but there is no other place where you can enjoy them in this location.
I don't know about the matcha, as I am not a matcha specialist, but the warabimochi is not the type of rice cake you can find anywhere else, but each rice cake is large and the sauce is very special and very tasty. My wife's opinion of the matcha was spicy.
If you don't like matcha, I would recommend coffee. I often drink specialty coffee, but it was a normal coffee.
The large tea kettle in the center of the restaurant was well aged, and the small interior, the paintings on the walls, and the Daikoku-sama in front of the restaurant created an excellent atmosphere.
And the experience of eating while gazing at Nigatsudo and the people coming and going from inside the hall was the most special of all.
I highly recommend it if you...
