ピッツェリア プルチーノ — Restaurant in Osaka

A friend introduced me to this restaurant right around its one year anniversary, and I was extremely impressed.

The restaurant is obviously very deliberately and lovingly designed, right down to the soft-gold painted doorframes and the colorful aprons hanging on the walls. The vibe made you feel good just to be there.

The food was excellent, as well. All elements of the meal were traditionally Italian dishes with tasteful additions of Japanese elements, like the lotus root simmered in tomato sauce or sashimi with Italian sauce. The wood fired pizza was delicate and delicious. I especially likes the stewed eggplant topping. The handmade pasta perfectly firm, using plenty of porcini mushrooms to make a delicious cream sauce. We had a very long walking day and decided to try this restaurant because it was so close to our hotel and boy were we impressed. It seemed to be run by a couple, literally just two of them, one making all the food and the other serving, making drinks, and taking orders. I was impressed with how traditional Italian the crust/dough was but the flavors of pizza were so good. The wagyu pasta was amazing and everything was reasonably priced, that pasta back in the states would be at least $30 and it was way less than half that price here. Really amazing pizza. We found this place after a couple of weeks in Japan, and while we loved Japanese cuisine, we were ready for a change. The pizza here is great and comparable with some of the best Neapolitan style pizza I have had - we had the spicy salami and prosciutto/rocket pizzas. They had a range of local craft beers and imported Italian wines - both were good.

To top it off, we had a really nice chat with the chef (and his dad, who insisted we join him for beer and sake!) after our meal.
