This is a small, cozy, and comfy cafe located just a few minutes on foot from JR Namba Station (South exit). It seats 11 people max, so while it's not good for groups, it's great for enjoying coffee solo or on a date.
Keep in mind the owner is the only person behind the bar, so multiple food and drink orders might take time. However, the wait is worth it, and there are so many books (in multiple languages), figures (Gundam, Kamen Rider, etc), and other interesting items on the shelves to peruse while passing the time.
Some small notes: Soy milk is available as a substitute for an additional 50円. For the people who need it, there is no wifi available here, sorry. Iced drinks were served with unbleached paper straws (something you don't see too often in Japan, very much appreciated).
This was my favorite place to relax and recharge during my stay in Namba. The owner puts a lot of thought and care into the food and drinks he makes. Also, spinning Nujabes on vinyl in the background was the icing on the cake. I can't wait to visit Osaka so I can order that amazing iced soy latte and try everything else...
Read moreGood cafe for what it is but a bit on the pricey end. The coffee was okay but nothing out of the ordinary and the ambiance was cozy as others have alluded. It's hard to figure out how to word this but although the service was good, it felt like the staff was trying hard to flex their English skills when it wasn't necessary. I think they heard my partner speak English so they automatically assumed she was a foreigner despite being Japanese, so when we ordered in Japanese, they just deflected us with English which turned into an odd, uncomfortable game of language tug-of-war. So I guess it depends on your perspective -- if you don't speak any Japanese, this place is a safe bet for English-speakers traveling around Japan. Otherwise, I guess just come in with an open mind and some patience? Appreciate the gesture and the efforts but in the end, we left the cafe with...
Read moreWalking around Osaka, I found myself looking for something to enjoy and was recommended to try Osaru Coffee. It was a brief walk from Namba Yasaka Jinja shrine and so after a short walk, I found the lovely little café at the corner of the street.
The inside of the café is a little small but after a few minutes of waiting, I was able to sit down and have a drink and dessert. The menu contained many types of coffees each with interesting blends. Some contained more fruity ingredients like the Brazil coffee while others were more bitter, see the slow boat coffee.
I ordered the slow boat coffee with a cheesecake and was greeted with a rich coffee blend with just the right amount of bitter. Cheesecake was a great choice to enjoy...
