Tempura Makino Namba — Restaurant in Osaka

The restaurant offers freshly cooked tempura served in set meals or ala carte. They've got a few sweet and sour side dishes that come before the classic soups and steamed rice are served. I like the homey feel of the place where a Japanese chef prepares the tempura varieties right in front of you while you leisurely take a sip on the counter. The restaurant is likeable for diners who enjoy the huge local and foreign crowds during peak hours. The overall dining experience could have been better if the counter seating were organized and set for specific groups of 2s, 4s, and 5s, at least; to reduce diners' waiting time and avoid inconveniencing solo travelers. The place was quite noisy and nosy, with some rude foreign male diners mocking and bullying somebody in the restaurant.. something culturally inappropriate and disgraceful that was way beyond the expected social decorum in Japanese restaurants.

Having been sick in the last 3 days with the hope to get some good air with good food, I am glad to have gone to Tempura Makino Namba with a steady and supportive...

Makino provides about 35 counter seats and 4 tables for 4 persons. You may see how the chef cooks and serves you individual tempura at the counter seat. It is my preferable choice.

Makino has been opened for quite a while and the inside condition remains clean and tidy as well as no strong smell of oil. Ventilation works efficiently.

Chose a special seasonal set for 6 pieces of tempura, including egg plant, fish, oyster, sweet potato, egg and shrimp. Certainly, they will also serve us with rice and miso soup. Also ordered tempura of squid, lots root, pumpkin and maitake mushroom.

All of them are deep fried to crispy state and iside remains hot and soft . All tempura are quite delicious. They also serve pickles and salty fresh squid free of charge, a very nice appetizer.

Amazing Tempura restaurant! If you like this type of food, you should definitely try it! The location is excellent, just in the shopping area, the interior is clean with a simple design. The staff is very friendly & helpful. The host spoke English and they also have English, Korean & Chinese menus available, so it’s easy to order and get around. The prices are also excellent, (on 11th April 2019) 890¥ for a Tempura Shrimp set, and 130-180¥ for extra pieces. Beer is also quite cheap, 430¥ for a Kirin draft.
