The city bakery Osaka is located at umekita plaza B1 grand front Osaka (south). Due to its close proximity to Osaka Station, this bakery is popular amongst tourists and locals alike. We discovered this busy contemporary cafe the first morning we arrived in Osaka. Breakfast is served 730-11am. Pastries, burgers & brunch are served from 11am to 7pm, however we did not try any due to our tight schedule. Otherwise we could give some comments about the lunch food menu. In general not many people comment about breakfast places, however this bakery touches our heart by its pastry quality and ambience. The prices were reasonable and the coffee quality was up to par. We had breakfast there for 4 consecutive mornings while we were in Osaka.
The bakery opens pretty early at 730am. Sumptuous breakfast were served: CB breakfast, hot sandwich ricotta cheese and banana, focaccia hot sandwich with ham and cheese, French toast and egg Benedict (price ranges 800-1200 yen) We tried every item available on the breakfast menu. We tried not to browse around the bakery station, seriously, we just could not take our eyes off the freshly baked mouth-watering pastries and bread…
In fact the early opening hours suited our schedule perfectly. We could fill up our stomach before we started our busy sightseeing schedule. The earlier you start your day, the lesser people you meet at the popular spots. (But not at the Universal Studio though, no matter how early you go, there are always tons and tons of people waiting in front of...

Have been frequent this Cafe location for about 5 years, most of the time I just grab a sandwich and a drink. Their hot sandwich was really good, but have not seen it on the menu recently. the CB burger is decent for a pan friend burger instead of it been grilled which is my personal preference. Non alcohol sangria is good with plenty of apple/orange bits added in.
The Cafe gets crowded during lunch time, or early afternoon and the weekends, depending on the situation you either grab a seat before going to the order line, or you have to stand in line while waiting for a seat to open up and for a server to show you the way.
Have only tried the actual bakery portion once since it is usually crowded with people buying breads and pastries.
Sadly my favorite bread the City Bakery Focaccia is not sold downstairs at the Cafe and it is only available at the 7th floor Brasserie...
Read moreWow I mean wow. Like it was THAT BAD, I was impressed.
Looks were great, but talk about a stage light huney… we bought chocolate croissants and I had a cranberry muffin. I mean—who can do that wrong?
By the time we ate it later, my wife and I looked at each other…thinking naw, mine was just a fluke right.
Nope, the croissants were both over-kneaded lumps of heavy cooked dough. The chocolate as good but could not make up for the heavy leaden bread that they tried selling me as a croissant. We were impressed on how WRONG this was done. Was it a rookie baker in the back trying out their first go at baking? Possibly, as it likely couldn’t get worse.
The cranberry muffin was more tolerable, but still achieved a level of dryness that only found salvation from the fruit within.
Never will go there again ! Be warned, until they fix what the heck is...
