We queued 30 mins plus to get into the restaurant. Noticed that almost all people waiting in line are tourists (I presume all including me know about this restaurant through social media). Anyway, we ordered 3 signature eel egg rice bowls to be shared by 4 person. The rice bowls are visually and stunningly HUGE, a Big piece of eel and egg omelette are piled up on the nest of rice , however the taste of the eel and egg omelette are just ok. Not particularly impressive. The flavoured rice taste good but the quantity is way too much for one to finish it at all. Maybe if the amount of rice can be reduced to a moderate level, so that people may enjoy the eel and egg omelette more. Personally I think the huge proportion of this eel rice bowl can be viewed as a “BIG” gimmick to arouse tourists interests, however I notice that most people cannot finish even half of the bowl. Two guys just ate a bit of their bowls and left at least 3/4 of the bowl untouched. We tried to finish as much as we could but failed. The leftover rice were made into 6 big onigiri for us to take away. We did not eat the onigiri the next few days due to our busy and tight schedule. What a waste! The restaurant is small and customers cannot really sit comfortably and enjoy their meals relaxingly. Visit once to have the experience of having a BIG bowl of eel rice is fine. But I won’t visit the restaurant again. One time...
Read moreI have been trying to go to this restaurant for two nights since I arrived at osaka. Seeing a lineup just basically discouraged me from going there. Today, I ended up back in the city early after a day trip. So I went around 5 pm, seeing a few people is lining up, so I just got to it as I was free. The lineup is by the escalator next to the glass windows
It didn't get so long to be seated, I was a bit surprised for a solo eater getting charged extra for cover after 3pm, would be nicer if it was informed ahead of time before getting into the restaurant or on the line up sign. The English version should include that info about 3pm and solo eater since I thought I was being discriminated against not being able to speak Japanese, but then I saw a similar note on the corner of the Japanese menu as well afterward.
There was an electronic menu for online ordering that makes things so much easier for both sides. There is a choice for a smaller portion, but there was no discount , so why would I do that?
I ordered the popular dish with an unagi and huge eggie on top of rice... I wasn't so sure what the big deal about it was... as it came... first of all, it's huge... second of all, it shaked 😆 yummie and fun
I couldn't finish it, but they were able to use the remaining rice to make an onigiri so not...
Read moreWent to this eel resto in Umeda after visiting the Universal Studios Japan and lined up for more than half an hour. . My sis and I ordered Eel with Fluffy Omelette Rice Bowl. Topped with a large piece of eel and a thick layer of egg, the dish was huge. The egg was soft, while the eel was tasty and nicely grilled.
My bro ordered Beef and Eel Rice Bowl, while my parents got Eel Size: Regular with Rice. Both dishes smelled fragrant. The beef slices were tender.
The portion for each dish was so huge that we couldn't finish them. Luckily the resto could help the customers to transform the leftover food into onigiri, we saved them for breakfast! . Be aware that each person has to pay a cover charge of JPY330, and must order 1 drink. The instruction was a bit unclear so only when we sat down did we realise this...Also, five of us squeezed into one table, so it was a bit hard for us to eat comfortably, esp after waiting for quite a while. . Interesting that when we entered and left the resto, the staff would hit the drums and delivered some greetings to us. . Ultimately, I thought the food was ok, but may not worth such a long...
