I entered the restaurant politely, trying my very best to speak Japanese and greeting the staff with a smile, but both male chefs had unwelcoming expressions and made me feel uncomfortable. Their unfriendliness made me loose my appetite immediately. As we sat down we realise the table was prepared with 3 sets of cutlery instead of 4 sets. I politely asked for another set of chopsticks and the staff acted as “Why would you need another set of chopstick?” and often tried to ignore us. I had to count the sets of cutlery to him to make him believe we are short of one set of chopsticks. His response was again unfriendly and unrespectful. The only staff that made us feel welcome was the female waitress who always smiled and was very polite. Other than that, the atmosphere was nice and the food was delicious too. There are so many other restaurants around the area so if you are looking for excellent food with friendly service, then The original butchikiri sushi Uoshin Shinsaibashi branch definitely is not the...
Read moreRestaurant Review: An Excellent and Affordable Sushi Experience My first visit to this restaurant was a delightful surprise! To sum it up, even with just a tiny bit of basic Japanese (knowing how to read the hiragana syllabary), you'll enjoy a highly cost-effective sushi dinner with an absolutely fantastic dining experience. If you can only communicate in simple English, you'll still get a great value sushi dinner (though you might miss out on some interaction with the chef, which is a bit of a shame!).
I chose this restaurant for my first meal in Japan primarily because I had a discount coupon from the Have Fun in Kansai Pass. However, even without it, the value of their set meals remains outstanding.
The Food: Freshness and Flavor Highlights Following my usual habit when dining in Japan, I prioritized ordering the "Daily Specials" (本日のおすすめ). The Kanpachi (かんばち - greater amberjack) that arrived was incredibly fresh and springy, and the chef clearly explained whether or not sauce was needed. Next, the Aji (あじ - horse mackerel) sashimi, although perhaps not in its peak season, was still wonderfully fresh. The Tuna Belly (とろ - toro) and Tuna Head Meat (脳天 - nōten) that followed were incredibly rich and fatty. The recommended Live Octopus (活たこ - ikidako) was wonderfully firm and chewy. We also ordered several other dishes. My advice is, since you've made it all the way to Japan, don't just stick to the usual salmon, tuna akami, and so on. Make sure to try some unique ingredients! We finished our meal with a mixed tempura (ぶきり天ぷら - bukiri tempura), which perfectly rounded off an excellent meal. The prices are also very approachable; a similar meal in Taipei would likely cost over NT$2500.
Service & Atmosphere: Engaging and Welcoming Throughout the meal, it was evident that the chef approached the food with great seriousness and dedication. After the meal, I had a brief chat with the staff in English and even exchanged some anime thoughts with the chef – it was a truly wonderful dining experience.
Recommendations for Diners Don't just order beer! In the summer, a refreshing sawa (サワー) or highball (ハイボール) paired with sushi is also a fantastic experience.
Be a considerate traveler and respect the restaurant's culture. Everyone should order something, and if it's crowded, don't try to squeeze into the counter seating.
Have Fun in Kansai...
Read moreI just had an amazing sushi experience at this restaurant in Shinsaibashi, and I can’t stop thinking about it! I was in Osaka for three days, and I ended up coming here twice — that’s how good it was.
We got super lucky because there was no line when we arrived, so we didn’t have to wait at all. The staff were so friendly and made us feel right at home. Even though the place was bustling, they took the time to make sure we had everything we needed.
The sushi was super fresh, melt-in-your-mouth good, and you could really tell they put a lot of care into each piece. I was especially blown away by the Shirako — it was so creamy and flavorful, easily one of the best I’ve ever had.
If I’m ever back in Osaka, I’m definitely coming here again. Highly...
