After many days of walking through cities, my body was aching and definitely in need of relief. Being interested in different massage techniques from around the world—and having plenty of experience—it was finally time to try my first Japanese massage.
With a bit of research, I found a place nearby that had a good reputation. I was able to make an online reservation for two people easily and on short notice. The location is a bit hidden, on the underground level of a building, but signs made it easy to find.
We were greeted warmly, and there was a list in English showing the types of massages and packages available. We chose the Shiatsu massage, something I had heard of and was very curious to try. I didn’t know what to expect and was surprised when the therapist told me he would perform the massage while wearing a blindfold.
During the session, it became clear why—it made absolute sense that the therapist would focus only on the sensations in his hands. Before long, I realized I was in good hands. Without any guidance, he seemed to pinpoint the source of my pain and worked on it intensively. He spoke enough English to explain everything clearly during the treatment, and I felt well cared for.
After the 70-minute session, I decided to extend the treatment with an additional 35-minute intense foot massage, which began with a relaxing foot bath. The entire experience was incredibly soothing, and I felt immediate relief afterward.
We were even invited for a cup of green tea, and the hospitality from the entire staff was wonderful. They went above and beyond, even helping us find a restaurant for the evening. A truly memorable and...
Read moreAfter a few long days of walking around Osaka and Seoul, my whole body was feeling pretty tight, especially my calves. I stopped by RECOVER for a traditional Japanese massage and had a really good experience.
When I got there, they had me fill out a quick questionnaire where I mentioned that my calves were sore. It also asked if there were any areas I didn’t want them to touch, but I didn’t have any concerns. My therapist, Makimoto, did an amazing job! He really worked out the tension in my calves and focused on my traps, which are always tight.
One thing I liked is that they check in with you about the pressure. I personally prefer strong pressure, and Wakimoto adjusted perfectly, which made a huge difference. The whole session was relaxing and exactly what I needed. They even finished with a little shoulder massage at the end, which was a nice touch. On my way out, they gave me a small souvenir too.. really thoughtful.
If you’ve been walking a lot and need to loosen up, I definitely recommend checking this place out. Prices are reasonable, the staff is friendly, and the massage hit all the right spots. They are very...
Read moreSolo female travelers! This place was great! All the employees seemed to speak English well which was a relief since I am still working on my Japanese. I came here because another spa didn’t accept credit card and I ended up getting the 70 minute 7000 yen full body massage. I filled out a questionnaire when I signed in, in which I could point out problem areas (my legs were super sore from travel) and areas I wanted them to avoid. They provided an optional sweatshirt and sweatpants for comfort during the massage. Since I was getting my legs worked on, they gave me long shorts to wear. My masseuse Umano was incredible! He was so kind and checked in often to make sure I was comfortable and that the pressure was correct. At the end they gave me a folded oragami gift! Super sweet and super professional! I would definitely come again. My legs...
