Unatoto Honmachi — Restaurant in Osaka

I stumbled on this place on the way back to my hotel. They were just about to close, and I had a less than stellar dinner.

This is a very local restaurant, buried in the suburb in Hommachi about 5 minutes walk away from the big shopping district. I’m fairly certain only locals come here, given how difficult it was to find. They take a variety of payments and the menu has pictures so it’s pretty easy to order.

I ordered takeaway unagi on rice. There were 5 size options and I chose the second smallest. They freshly charred it for me and then packaged it in an adorable faux-lacquer takeout tray. Considering how much unagi normally costs, this is fantastic, well-priced...

Overall, the experience was fine — nothing bad, but also nothing that really stood out. Personally, I felt the dishes could have been seasoned a bit more to bring out stronger flavors. Another small downside is that the portions looked noticeably larger in the photos compared to what was actually served. Nice place in Honmachi where it's possible to get rice and unagi in various dishes. Side dishes are also available as well as a good variety of japanese sake and other more common drinks.
