If you're in otaru, love coffee, dessert, and cool unique ambiances...or just trying to get a cool photo for your ig, then this might be your spot. Old school vibes, lots of gas lanterns (might suck if you're sensitive to smells, kindve smells a little lighter than a gas station). Desserts are so tasty. Can't go wrong with any of them. There's always a wait (probably be cause people take their time taking photos once at their table). How to: 1) You order at the cashier, then you get assigned a table... Don't be that person who asks for a better table. 2) Once you put your things down at your seat, 3) go to the kitchen counter to wait for your order then take it back to your table. 4) after you finish, you need to bus your own table, don't be a jerk and leave it there.

Having had our lunch nearby, my elder son and I came here in the afternoon of January 20, 2016. Having bought and got our desserts, we choose to sit in a corner listening to the piano performance as well. The ambience there was so relaxed and pleasurable that it was incredible that we paid self-service price to have a 5-star+ experience! Postscript I came here again on February 12, 2019 at around 15:00 when the half-hour piano music began to play. Sitting around a big table of strangers, I just enjoyed the tea set recommended by the chef. But it was still nice and warm and the piece that appealed to me was “Love is a very splendid thing”!

Visited this place on 16th August, 2021. The cafe has beautiful interiors and the overall atmosphere is charming as well, however that's the only good thing about the place. I had ordered a chocolate parfait which was for 750 yen, and it was quite average in taste. The whipped cream on top was good and so was the chocolate sauce but the ice-cream was of sub-standard quality. What bothered me the most was the attitude of the girl at the coupon counter at the entrance. She was rather expressionless and came across as cold. When I asked for the menu, she sort of shoved it into my hands. That sort of was the biggest mood-killer for me right at the beginning. Overall, I felt the place only attracts "tourists" because of the look and feel of the interiors, which make great "insta" worthy pictures but that's about all. You can visit the cafe if you have time to kill and money to spend.

Dark, moody ambiance. Beautifully decorated with glass arts from the local area. Came on Tuesday lunchtime of day, but the lunch menu was not available. Average Cafe drink and food offerings. The tables and wall sconces are lit with gas lamps. If you're sensitive to smells, this place may not agree with you. The live piano is only available in 3 sessions of 30 minutes. They play recorded piano outside of live sessions. This place is very beautiful. However, the strong gas smell ruined it for me. Alternatively, this place would be perfect as a whiskey bar.

Absolutely gorgeous cafe!! It does smell slightly due to the lamps which is something to keep in kind if you are sensitive to smells, but if you are average I don't believe it will bother you. Very nice atmosphere to relax and warm up! To be honest, the cake wasn't the best I've had but it was still delicious and worth a try. I got it with the royal milk tea which I really enjoyed. Overall worth the visit to sit in this charming space and warm up with a nice beverage and snack.

We enjoyed our time at Kitaichi hall. With the wooden hall and oil lamp atmosphere, it was very cozy and a respite from the cold, snowy day. I tried the royal milk tea and ice cream float. The ice cream was delicious at first, but after it melted in the milk tea it tasted like ice crystals. The milk from the ice cream blended with the milk tea and balanced it, making it creamier and sweeter. We enjoyed some live piano music at 4pm, which was calming and pleasant.
