This is an izakaya that specializes in gyoza and zangi (hokkaido style fried chicken in potato starch batter).
There was a bit of a wait for a table for my family of six at 9.30pm. Seems to be popular with Japanese people, always promising. For entertainment, sit in the waiting area which also sells takeaway frozen gyoza and sing along with the cheerful 15 second gyoza sapporo that plays on loop continuously.😄
Nice warm izakaya atmosphere. The walls are decorated with gyoza flour bags🤭 Ordering is easy enough with English menu. Service gets the job done. They're not effusive, but the food arrived pretty fast and we didn't lack for anything. Water is self service.
The main options are steamed and fried gyoza.
Good gyoza should have Adequate filling wrapped tightly enough in the skin Correct mouth feel for the filling - meat should be meaty enough and yet balanced with herbs/chives etc Juicy when bitten into if possible The gyoza at this place met all my criteria
To me, i enjoyed the fried gyoza more because they burst with juicy oil and meat when bitten. But steamed was also enjoyable as you appreciate the subtler flavour of the filling more. Of course, order the GIANT gyoza, the normal gyoza is good, bigger gyoza is.... gooder😄.
Zangi, (essentially chicken karaage to me) was crispy outside and juicy on the inside, very enjoyable, comes with lemon, mustard and mayonnaise on the side. Seasoning and salt was on point, just salty enough to make it enjoyable to chug it down with a cold beer.
One of the better gyozas I had in Sapporo. I would consider returning again.
Closes at about 2230hrs, dont...

I think this needs to be fixed or else the shop reputation would go down just because of him.
I went to get some take out, but the staff who did the register showed very bad manner. He was making an annoying face very clearly! and making some noises to show that he feels annoyed. It made me feel that I was a burden to go and order the food. Btw, I paid for the food, I did not begged you for food.
It was my first time so it’s very normal that I would need to see what food they have on the menu and I did not take that much time so I dont understand why he behaved it like that? Also, I speak Japanese and can read Japanese!!!
The only thing I could imagine is “Racism”, but I do not want to put this topic on the table, to be honest. But this is not acceptable and no one should experience it. AND, I’m NOT going to visit the shop again!!!!
Picture below is the proof that I buy the food there and this is an...
Read moreI walk pass by this place so many times, never thought of visiting. But decided to finally check it out during my second Hokkaido trip. I was pleasantly surprised how good the food was! Especially zangi!
If you love karaage then you seriously need to eat zangi while in Hokkaido. It’s like a premium version of karaage but more seasoned, more delicious.
Zangi here you can choose salted version or sauced. The batter is heavily seasoned, unbelievably crispy. Inside is perfectly cooked and juicy. I couldn’t stop eating rice because of it. While pan fried gyoza here is massive in size, also tastes pretty good.
Price is good, vibes inside the shop is cozy and lively. But because their zangi was so perfectly delicious, I ate there for both lunch and dinner at the same day!
It’s sad to leave Hokkaido knowing I won’t be able to eat heavenly zangi like...
