Matsuki Burger — Restaurant in Takayama

Arguably one of the best and most underrated restaurants in Takayama. We didn’t expect much of the place since we wanted to grab lunch upon arriving in town midday. This place surprised us and compelled us to visit twice during our short stay in Takayama.

First visit, we had the the Shrimp Burger and the Hida beef burger. Both were tasty with the Shrimp Burger being surprisingly substantial - they definitely didn’t skimp on the shrimp by overdoing fried batter.

2nd visit on our last day, we did the Pleasure pork burger and the Egg burger. Delicious.

The only thing that could be better is perhaps the French fries which are good but pretty basic, and we didn’t come here...

Cannot judge the food- since we were not served. We came 90 minutes before closing time to the restaurant. There was a sign to tell in Japanese to wait a couple of minutes since the food is being prepared. After some minutes we looked into the kitchen and were greeted with a snappy " more minutes" in Japanese. After that and without looking at us or speaking to us the sign was exchanged to a similar one with "please wait 15-20 minutes" .. Which would mean almost until closing time.. We left. With a bad feeling.

By the way- there is only an outside seating...

BEST BURGER AND CUSTOMER SERVICE. Went here twice during my two day stay because the owner was so nice and attentive (and the food of course was delicious). I ordered a Hida burger one time and it was very tender and juicy. The set was reasonably priced and included fries and a drink, which the fries were salted just right and very well done. The second time I ordered the minced Hida burger and it was deliciously crunchy. The owner goes above and beyond to make sure you are well taken care of and I can’t recommend this...
