This place is expensive. The sushi was good, and the service was ok, but it had a sort of "stuck up" atmosphere. Like, let's be real, you have just spent a few weeks in Japan, and now you are in the departure area looking for some food. Yes, it should be good, and an airport can be slightly more expensive than usual, but 7000 yen for 6 pieces is too much, in my opinion. It was good sushi but didn't come with any of the experience you get in towns everywhere for that price point. I would not go here again given the price, the atmosphere and the sense of the workers had towards me because I was wearing the clothes I was about to be wearing for a 10.5 hour international flight where comfort matters more than dressing up for dinner. (Jeans and a decent t-shirt with sweater over top for those who were wondering) we had a couple of sushi rolls, miso soup, and a beer. It was all very good. There is no food quality issue here, just a pompas atmosphere, which is pretty rare. I'm japan, where normally the servers are trying very hard to do well for the patrons. They seemed annoyed that we were ordering in small parts. This is a common thing for me when ordering from a tablet to ensure I don't order 70 worth of mediocre food. Find a table, order a beer, read the menu, order a bit of food, if good order more. This seems to be what turned the mood sour...

Read moreI was looking for one last decent meal in Tokyo before flying out, and was very happy to discover Ariso Sushi in Haneda Terminal 3, located prior to security. I kept my expectations in check given the location, the tablet ordering system, and a bad sushi experience at NRT, but afterwards I left feeling really impressed. Heads up there are two locations - one is a 24-hour kaiten setup while the one I dined at is more of a proper sushi bar. Both are located on the 4th floor.
An omakase set is available along with various combinations, but I opted for a la carte to try things I wouldn’t be able to find as easily in the states. From the giant clam to the toro, every piece was truly fantastic. Great knifework, temperature and flavor throughout. Maybe the rice could have better texture, but this is miles better than most sushi in the US.
8 pieces and a handroll came out to around 8600 yen, which I’d say is a true bargain. I would be happy to eat here again the next time I fly...
