Bar LIBRE Ikebukuro — Restaurant in Tokyo

I’ve lived in Tokyo for 15 years and had a decent experience at this bar previously. On a recent visit, I recommended it to a Japanese friend who’s been a local in Ikebukuro for 20 years. Unfortunately, this time, the experience was disappointing. I ordered a cigar, as I had enjoyed one here before, but the staff cut it beyond the cap and band, causing it to unravel and become unsmokable. When I politely pointed this out, the atmosphere became uncomfortable, and I was told that other customers preferred their cigars cut this way. My friend and I were taken aback by the response, and it soured what was meant to be an enjoyable evening. Awesome cocktail bar, definitely recommend! I stopped in this spot with a colleague while on a business trip and we had a great time. I even made a trip back 2 nights later before my flight home so I could explore more of the menu. Cool atmosphere, great drinks, and very friendly staff. Cocktails were in the ballpark of ¥1,200-¥2,200 each. The bartenders spoke really good English and made good conversation, and the menu was printed with both Japanese and English descriptions. Truly excellent experience, from the quality and innovation of the cocktails to the friendliness and hospitality of the staff. English was widely spoken, both on the menu as well as by the staff themselves. We happened to stop in on a night where they were hosting a talented bartender from Vietnam who brought in four additional special drinks, which were also fabulous. Their whisky selection (particularly their Scotch inventory) was huge, with many unique bottles!
