An ethical rabbit sanctuary with good priorities on the welfare of the rabbits. Each pen has a bonded pair or an individual rabbit if they're a solo bun, with some aged up to 9 years old which is an excellent sign of good health.
The process is that you are given ten minutes per pen, which gives the rabbits plenty of downtime between socialising. Kids under ten are not allowed, which I consider a good thing, as rabbits are not toys.
The amount of concurrent guests are capped to avoid over-socialising the rabbits, so reservations are recommended. Reservations can be made in Japanese by phone, but you can also walk in and make a reservation in person; it's close to Suehirocho Station and a short walk from Akihabara Station. The staff can speak limited English to guide you through the process during your visit.
One rabbit, Himari-chan, has head-tilt, a known physical impairment that occurs in some rabbits, but the fact that she has had it for five of her nine years is a sign that she has been well cared for to be able to live comfortably into old age. The owner is a source of love for the rabbits - they are curious around guests, but they will jump up on the owner and ask for cuddles if he enters a pen. He is well bonded with all of them.
Not all rabbits are out at the same time, with some resting in their hutches, but in the multiple times I've been here, I've seen all of them out at some point or another on rotation.
Finally, a random but maybe useful fact is they don't like the smell of otters and ferrets, so the rabbits might get cranky if you visit an otter sanctuary beforehand and come in smelling like one. I learned this the hard way, and was pretty unpopular for one...
Read moreWe didn't come here for the cafe part, and really I only had a coke, so I can't speak to that. This review is about the rest, and it was amazing!
The employees here were super helpful and did a wonderful job, even with English speakers. It's ¥2,000 yen for an hour or ¥1,000 for 30 minutes. It comes with treats, but just like a little Togo ramekin of them. You should get the ¥200 additional or you will be really rationing the buns.
The bunnies are super food motivated (as many are) and the treats help get them to do some cute things.
You will get play sessions of 15 minutes in 4 separate pens. (If you get the hour) it felt like just barely enough time, so I highly suggest you do the full hour.
If you have big feet, you're going to have a hard time fitting in any of their slippers they provide. (You cannot bring your own) You will also need to wear one of their provided smocks. If there was anything I suggest this business do it's to get at least one pair of extra large slippers for bigger people to wear. Otherwise this experience was amazing.
Thanks again to the hosts and all their...
Read moreAs a bunny owner I have to say I was extremely impressed with the care and compassion the staff demonstrated toward these delicate animals. They were extremely knowledgeable and aware of the animal’s needs. I liked that there’s a set of rules you sign off on; all with the animals best interest at heart. The rabbits themselves were flopping and binkying frequently- signs they are well loved and cared for, and I found it very clever that the rabbit food they give you feed them was pellets; as typically rabbits should only injest around 1/4 cup a day. They had an unlimited supply of Timothy hay- another sign that this establishment really knows their bunny care. The price was extremely reasonable. The rabbits well tempered and doing what typical bunnies do; playing, and sleeping lots; lol. I highly recommend this bunny cafe - it...
